Your restaurant recommendations? - Pizza
Wherever we go, we ask locals to recommend their favorite local Pizza restaurant. It dawned on us, why not ask MOC'ers for
their recommendations? We'll then, wherever we land, have a place to go look for recommendations.
Everyone please feel free to add new threads for other food types.
We'll start it off. Our favorite Pizza restaurant is Jamestown Pie Company in Jamestown, VA, where "Good Food is Round
Food." We were introduced to Jamestown Pie Company by CanDo (Chris and Dave).
A very close second is Mystic Pizza in Mystic, CT, the one down near the water. Haven't been to the other one out near the highway.
Tommy's Pizza in Gettysburg, PA was also very good, maybe third place.

I have to say we are partial to Mary's Pizza Shack found all over Northern California. Mostly in Sonoma County, but along the Highway 80 corridor and as far north as Anderson. We especially like the Cloverdale location ; )

There is absolutely no pizza that compares to real New York Pizza. All the rest are pretenders!!

Any one in New York City or Long Island. No chain stores.

NCFishers, boo and hiss!!! Chicago pizza makes that NYC stuff look like soggy shingles!! (Maybe that's a bit over board!) Anyway, I love Giordano's stuffed deep dish.

Walt & Carol,
Chicago pizza is ok if you like eating bread with sauce and cheese on it (just kidding). They are both good but it's hard to call them by the same name since they are so different.

Jim and Vickie,
I know what you mean. Besides these "big two", there are so many others around. You have seen, for example, those little thin, crispy crust California gourmet "pizzas". Not even round, and a crust like a cracker!! How can they call them pizzas and say they are healthy? Pizzas are many things to many people, but healthy???? No way! If they are, what's the point?

I lived in California for 20 years and what they do to pizza ought to be a crime. 27 grain crusts, all manner of crap on them, designer pizzas. I only ate pizza from one place when I lived there. The owner came from New York and he used a real pizza oven not a chain oven. We renovated his building one time and he was shut down for 3 months. I didn't have pizza until we got him open again.

Hey, guys! How about we limit this thread to recommendations for good pizza, regardless of style. And start another thread to debate which pizza is best? Sorry to be a wet blanket but I'm really hoping this thread will serve as a good reference to find a good pizza place wherever we happen to be, for us and anyone else who wants to use it.
Thanks.

My husband grew up in Long Island, NY and is very particular about his pizza. The best pizza we've had in a long, long time is "Brooklyn Pizza" in Queensbury, NY (Near Lake George). It is true NY Pizza and the owner is from there as well! We found in our travels, that just because a Pizza place's owner is from NY, it doesn't necessarily mean its good pizza. When it comes to pizza, we look for the best, and don't care what the place looks like.
We also had some really great pizza while in Rockport, TX. I don't remember the name of the place, but it was located in a little strip mall on the main drag.

The best pizza is Zachary's Pride and Joy at Zachary's in Berkeley, CA. Honest. We haven't found any better anywhere.
Steve, I hope you're going to put all this info on a spreadsheet so we can PM you no matter where we are and you'll be able to send us to the best pizza in the area!

Not a bad idea, Pam. However, it would be me keeping track ... maybe when I get caught up with Postcards I'll give it some thought.
