Wifi when on the road
What does everyone do for internet and/or wifi when traveling? We are new to the RV. We just purchased a 2010 Montana. Love it and are about to take our first road trip.

We use an AT&T hotspot. Rarely are we without an internet connection and it is usually fast enough to stream movies.

Most Campgrounds say they have wi-fi but it hardly ever works. Too many people with too little bandwidth. Be prepared to provide your own internet connection with your cell phone. Mine can become a hot spot. Watch your data usage unless you have unlimited. If you have unlimited, be aware that most will slow down your speed after a certain number of gb used.

I agree with other comments. However, this summer I have been to several campgrounds that had wifi almost as good as home. This is a big upgrade over past years. I would say, maybe 50-60% are pretty good with 20% almost unusable. Used to be 50% unusable and 50% so-so.
Getting better!

If campground WIFI is too slow, we use our AT&T phones to create our own hotspot connection, that is where we have AT&T service. I plan to get a Verizon MiFi so that we are covered. Where we camp it is 50/50 that you will have one service or another and not always both. This is the first year we found a campground that had just done a major upgrade to their wireless network and we had better speeds than at home. Glad this is finally starting to show up but I'm sure will take many years before the majority of campgrounds have decent WiFi.
I am also looking at the WiFi Ranger and would be curious to hear about other MOC users experience with the WiFi Ranger.

We use our phones as hot spots on Verizon.

There are actually two models of Verizon jetpack hotspots. We now have the much better one, model AC791L, that is actually made by Net gear for Verizion. Way better than the pos that most Verizon stores stock.

We also use a Verizon Hot Spot, in our case a separate unit/number from phones. We have been very disappointed with is the fake "unlimited" data offered by Verizon. After we use our base amount of data they slow down the speed to the point that we are actually very limited.
