Purchased 2018 3120 RL

Good Morning fellow RV'ers.. We have purchased a new Montana 3120 RL which is currently scheduled for production in a few months. We will be pulling it with a GMC 3500 HD Dually and learning the ropes. We will be full timing and have never attempted this before. Any beginner advice would be greatly appreciated. How to setup reservations by the month? Which travel sites are most useful? How to pull a 5th wheel safely. the list seems enormous but we are going for it.
Best Regards,

John & Kelly

Welcome to the forum and congratulations on your new purchase. You have found the most useful site for learning about you Montana. You already figured out to buy enough truck to tow your 5th wheel safely. Go ahead and ask specific questions and you'll quickly get sound advice from members of the MOC.

First, when you pick up your trailer, make sure they walk through everything on the unit, how it operates, etc and take notes or some even film it. This should include both you looking over everything to ensure it works and so you fully understand the unit.

In addition to this site, here are others such as RV 101, Love Your RV, RV Geeks and many others that have good videos on operational basics, maintenance, trailering, gadgets, etc Use these and this site to get familiar with the process (and help you pass the time til the unit arrives). The more you research now, the smoother things will be after you get the unit.

John and Kelly,

Welcome, this is a great place to connect, learn and share. My advice is:

-Use the internet to learn as much as possible before traveling - lots of good utube videos out there
-Make the dealer spend time explaining everything to you before driving off the lot
-Don't take it off the lot if there are a lot of small issues or a big one or two; they will fix it must quicker if they haven't got paid yet
-Take it slow, know where you are going, make checklists to hook-up, un-hook, what to bring etc

Welcome. We fulltimed for six years and loved every minute. Figure out what legal residency you want, medical and dental, mail, banking, automatic bill payers, monthly budget you want to maintain, a plan if you must come off the road to name a few. Nothing complicated but easier if in place when you hit the road. We chose SD because taxes and ease of DMV, absentee voting, significant cost savings to us vs VA and they are very supportive of fulltimers. Sounds like you have plenty of time to plan ahead.

Welcome. IMHO the first step is a very thorough PDI. Identifying and getting things fixed before you pay for your unit will decrease the frustrations, etc of getting warranty work done while your full timing. Hope you've got a good dealer.

Welcome to the forum! In addition to the advise above I would take it to an empty parking lot and practice turns and backing where you have lines to judge by.

Welcome to the MOC family and as you can already see you will glean a wealth of information and friendship during your time here.

We have the residential fridge model 3721 and after 4 other floor plans over the years we keep saying this layout is the very best for us.

One thing we were never happy about was the pocket bath door set up would not allow access to the bath without opening the bedroom slide. Because of the actions of Dick, many of us have removed the pocket door hardware and reinstalled the door on regular hinges allowing it to swing into the bath up against the toilet. We can now slip down the hall to the bath while on the road. Absolutely the best mod we have made.

Enjoy and keep asking questions.

Update. 3120 RL is off the assembly line and should be in Harrisonburg PA (Camping World) in a couple of week. Installing 65' driveway (gravel) at the in-law home now we have a domicile address and a place to squat if needed.

John and Kelly,

Did you take possession of the 3120RL? We are interested in the same unit and are looking for reviews.

Thanks,
Phil

Welcome hope you enjoy your RVing, we are absolutely freezing in cold 50's and low 60's during the day here in Florida, but its better than being in sub zero weather if we were not RVing. Hope you enjoy that 3120, its one of our favorite floor plans.

We pick it up on Saturday Jan 13th.. I will let you know how it goes.. Sorry for the late response. Very excited and MOC has provided us with a extensive check list for delivery. We purchased from Camping World and they are fixing the interior colors as Montana ran out of the light colored back splashes during production. Sent photos to Camping World and they found the correct backsplash and installed. We go sat to survey entire camper have hitch installed and then tow it to Hagerstown Mother in laws home.

Ditto the Inspectation B4 paying for it.

Ask a friend to video the PDI

Check extended warranty before closing

Learn to turn wide and just take it easy.

Passport America is well worth the expense.

Have you lined up insurance - lots of good feedback in other threads.

Congrats on the new unit. We just bought a 2018 ourselves. Like others have said on here make sure you take your time on the walk thru before you accept the unit. Don't let them rush you and even take some time alone with the coach. Take lots of pictures even if you don't see anything wrong. Don't accept the unit until you have every issue on PAPER. More than likely there won't be too many problems but it is a lot easier to get them fixed upfront for sure!

Good luck!
