"Protection"
In one of the other threads several are speaking up about the "protection" they carry. I usually carry a 12ga and a 9mm Glock. In my neck of the woods (west) that is not an issue, but we are heading back east next month. Are there are any states that where carrying a shotgun or pistol in the RV is illegal?
I talked to my sheriff friend and he told me that (at least in our state) the RV is considered your home and no issues.

That is true for most states. An RV is considered a home and you do not have to have a permit for the pistol in your home, as it is not being carried. However, every state is different and I would check the state laws for each of the states you plan on traveling thru.

You also need to check on the type of gun you carry. I believe both my Governor and Snake Slayer are illegal in California since they are in essence sawed off shotguns.

Yup, Colorado is an open carry state except for fully automatic weapons. While traveling in other states, my weapons are stored in the RV unloaded until I get to my destination for the night. My home/RV is my castle Safety 1st!

Don't go into NY with the 9. Other than that, do not forget that you will be tried for any injuries or deaths to those in nearby units that had nothing to do with your 'intruder' that you had to protect yourself from. That 12 ga will go through at least two RVs and the 9 maybe three. There's next to nothing to these walls.

I second this. They have no leeway, and last time I was there, instant 2-year jail sentence for first offense. No questions asked, no excuses listened to.

I would rather be judged by 12 than carried by 6.
Load with Air Marshal rounds.

All states allow weapons unloaded with ammo in different locked space. When stopped it becomes your home. Load as usual. Be very very careful as these rigs do not stop much and I may be next to you. Just my 4 cents.

I work in Law Enforcement (35 yrs) and I would say that you have to have probable cause to go into your vehicle and would need to obtain a search warrant to search. If gun is out of sight I can't not see how it would be an issue. You do something with the weapon then it all depends but once again would need a search warrant unless some emergency reason to go into your RV or truck. Be smart and not an issue. Most police officers don't worry about the law abiding folks.

Massachusetts is another state to be very careful in. Very much gun unfriendly. Over penetration is a real issue in a RV.

Responsible gun owners know the law and where to get the information needed to comply. Do not rely on hearsay or internet stories.
Use the app that will let you know the specific laws on gun carry, reciprocity, transport etc of every state. The app is updated almost daily which tells me what I know as fact today might not be applicable tomorrow.
https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/ccw-...443321291?mt=8
There are probably other resources available online.

While you might be justified in your actions by the district attorney your problems are only beginning with the civil suit brought on by the bad guys relatives.

My understanding is that federal law under the right to freely travel from state to state (constitutional) allows you to pass through any state as long as the firearm is unloaded and out of reach (in your TV). In such cases it is recommended that you do pass through and not spend the night or extended periods in a strict firearms state. I agree that a warrant would be necessary to get into the RV to search for weapons.

I was on a jury, Civil case were a individual has already been convicted of a felony. He was suing the women who shot him in the doorway of her home while he was attempting to enter and attack her daughter a former girlfriend. She nearly blew his arm off with a 12 gauge shotgun and he was suing her for damages. We were not permitted to know at the time of the trial that he was convicted of a felony that involved the daughter but it was obvious without actually saying it in court....He lost.

When we traveled through NY, NJ and all of the N.E States this summer we did not temp fate and removed all firearms and all traces of firearms from the RV and Truck. It felt weird but felt it was necessary.
