Rear Window Shades
After 10 years, the rear window shade is shot. Wife wants to replace it with the same type--8 feet across with day-night feature--a typical RV window shade. These are easier to clean.
I was wondering if a window shade from Lowes or Home Depot would work just as well or maybe even 2 shades that are 4 feet each. Your experiences would be interesting.

How is it 'shot'? If it's just the strings, you can rebuild it and save a lot of $$ doing so. Otherwise, we've got a rear entertainment model and leave it down all the time. I've put some mylar bubble insulation in back of it to help keep heat out and also darken the thing. Never was able to watch TV in the daytime otherwise.

Too many things wrong to describe--better to start new. I often rebuild but not this time around.

Being in Texas you might see who's replacing theirs with MCD shades in McKinney and if you could meet them somewhere. We're getting ours replaced there the end of this month.

We replaced all of our shades with the MCD Shades out of McKinney, TX. We could not be happier or more pleased. They are wonderful people to work with and do a great job. Their installers are VERY professional and protective of your things. Highly recommend them!!
We were traveling through that area and contacted them for an appointment. Pulled in on a Sunday and they were done by Thursday. They have an area there for you to park and plug into 50 amp electricity free. Just be sure to fill your fresh water tank before arriving and you will be fine.

I'm having MCD install window shades in my rv the week of January 16th. I will arrive the 15th -this Sunday and they will measure Monday, make them Tuesday and hopefully install them Wednesday. I am the only appointment they have for that week now so hopefully I won't be there long. To bad they don't have winter specials like Mor-Ryde does. If they did they would probably be very busy during the winter. I had Mor-Ryde install my IS and brakes last March and they were quite busy.

Must be about that time, 10 years. Our very large rear day/night shade broke. Well the shade is fine, it's the string that broke. I have replaced a string or two over the years on a couple of other smaller shades, but I have NO desire to tackle this large shade. Not sure what I want to replace it with yet, but it probably won't the usual day/night shade. I'll let my wife decide what to do.
Fortunately for us, the shade string mostly broke in the night shade configuration. That is, there is a small 8" gap where the day shade is in place and the opaque night shade part stopped.
