King bed platform
The platform under our king mattress is shorter than the mattress and is not wide enough to give complete support. Has anyone experienced this or is it the way it is?
Our friends have an SOB with a similar issue and added and extension to help with the support problem.
I am thinking of just replacing the platform with one that fits the mattress but need to close up Monte first to check for clearance against the dresser. I suppose if I replaced the factory mattress with a real one I wouldn't need o extend the platform.

From what I remember, the critical area is the sink vanity which is why the platform is notched on that end. I cannot remember what the clearance to the dresser was. As you stated, the only way to know is to close the slides and do some figuring based on what you see.

Our 2008 3400,was notched for the vanity as well as the mattress but the platform supported the entire mattress. I guess I'll find out tomorrow when we close up for our departure on Sat. Thx

I've changed the plywood on all three of our units. Want the edges supported and as much at the foot of the bed as possible also.
Hate sitting on the edge of the bed and slide off onto the floor because of no support.

I replaced my mattress with a Comfortaire mattress, which needed a larger base for support. Replaced the base and added L-angle(shelving brackets) bolted to the platform to support the edged of the bed.

We still want the capability of raising the platform to access additional storage. Not sure if that would work with the L brackets added.

I replaced the plywood platform..both sections and upgraded to a king Sleep Number. Made the platform flush at sides from say shoulders down...the bottom section of the platform. Made the top section wider..not as wide as the bed itself..too wide actually to point shelves under window impede opening top section of storage. Given we never get in there...its not a problem. Still have lower section to store chairs and misc items.

The l-angles are attached to the platform base, not to the top board so the the storage is still there. The top board sits on top of the l-angles, still opens like it did before.

Thx for the L brkt clarification. I still need to replace the platform has it has many "short" comings. Besides lacking at the foot and sides, the head is even more recessed. If I didn't know better, it's like they put a king size on a queen bed. Had I realized that at the time of purchase we would have taken the new queen out of the trade in. Lots of trips planned so will deal with this when we get back from Colorado.
