Location and Time preferences (an informal poll)
Since I'm not sure if we can get a "real" poll going, I want to make this thread a place for a simple answer to make it easier to tally up responses. I would like to gather responses until November 17th. At that point, I plan on tallying up the responses and will post the results. Then we can start to focus on looking for a campground that will meet our needs in that area.
Please answer these two questions and keep discussions in the other threads:
1 - Do you have a preference or recommendation for a location for a NorthEast regional rally? If so, where?
So far the ideas on the table are:
Lake George / Saratoga Springs Area
Niagara Falls Area
Syracuse Area
2 - What time frame would be better for you?
Early June
Mid June
Late June
Early July

So far the ideas on the table are:
Lake George / Saratoga Springs Area
Niagara Falls Area
Syracuse Area
Got here a bit late and I would like to have suggested the 1,000 Islands area.
BUT, Lake George or Niagra Falls will also work for me.
The 1,000 Islands area is a beautiful area and is just a bridge or ferry away from Canada. Alexandria Bay would be more expensive but you also have Clayton and Cape Vincent which are a bit less.
2 - What time frame would be better for you?
Early June
Mid June
Late June
Early July
Early June or mid June are still considered out of season for most of these areas. Late June or July would be in season.

Say what??? How can you not do bridges?? Bridges are a big part of traveling. Some of the best and most beautiful areas require you cross bridges. Some of the views from atop some of those bridges are spectacular.
BUT,
I should also point out that it was not that long ago I finally mustered up the nerve to cross the Sunshine Skyway which runs from St Petersburg to Bradington Florida. I have a height problem and The Skyway is nearly 300 feet above the water but I conquered that bridge last winter and have been over it numerous times.
The 1,000 Island international bridges, both US and Canadian, have spectacular views. In the past I had crossed them many many times but in recent years I started the fear of height thing. It took a couple tries but I finally forced myself to cross them and I am so glad I did.
BUT if you can't do the bridges there is a ferry out of Cape Vincent that will take you to Wolfe Island in Canada and than a Canadian ferry will take you to Kingston, Ontario. The Cape Vincent ferry was around $7.00 for a vehicle and 2 people. The ferry from Wolfe to Kingston is free.

Second problem. I am afraid of water. So bridges over water are something I really avoid. Tunnels too. Unless Chuck says something that keeps me quiet --- if you know what I mean . That area up there seriously is beautiful. I could do it if I really really had to.

Our preferences: 1. Lake George/Saratoga 2. Niagara Falls
When: 1. Late June 2. mid-June
I agree with Glenn and Lorraine about the Thousand Islands area - very nice. But would be a long ride for those coming from the southern part of the region.

Glad to see there is a Northeast Region rally.
My preference would be Lake George. It is truly beautiful there, and I haven't been there in several years.
Late June would be best for me, as my wife still teaches and doesn't get out until then.

Fred and Jen--thanks for stepping out and getting the ball rolling. Our preference is Lake George area. We have to say that anytime will do because we don't know when Bill will be able to have off so just hope that the preferred date will fit into his project schedule. Keep us posted!

My vote would be Lake George in mid to late June. Spent a week at the lake last August. There were so many things to do and things to see a week was nearly enough.

I would suggest Gettysburg, Pa. as site to hold the rally. I don't know much about the local campgrounds area but there is a lot of interesting civil war history and the battlefields, etc.
Mid June or late June would be best but I would try to make any date picked. End of August would not work for me.

Okay, Here is the Tally:
Location - Lake George - 6
- Niagara Falls - 4
- Gettysburg, PA - 1
- Bourne, MA - 1
- 1,000 Islands Area - 1
Time - Early June - 3
- Mid June - 5
- Late June - 3
- Early July - 0
- Fall - 1
I selected the 1st choice of everybody who replied to this thread, I also received a couple of responses via email, which were included. There were 13 definitive responses to this poll.
Now that we have an area and time frame, we can start to look at campgrounds.
Just a quick point, the finalized dates will be dependent upon campground availability. I will start to contact some of the campgrounds in the Lake George area and see what is available to meet the needs for a group of 10 to 15 rigs. I would like to have a definite location and dates before the end of the year, so if anybody else has additional campground recommendations in the Lake George area, let me know.

Anyplace in New York is fine with me, I have been to all the areas in question. I actually live in Syracuse. I also have a camp in the 1000 region right next to A Bay, it is beautiful up there, but there are pretty much only state parks, whihc means electric only, and the weekends fill up quick in those parks, you have to book like almost 1 year in advance.
