Noisy AC
OK--my rear AC is 9 years old. It still cools down the rig very well--also use the front AC to get a boost. In South Texas--AC is critical. So now it is a bit noisy--sounds like it is a little loose in the roof mounting. I plan on checking that today. Anyone have any experience on how long these units last? We have a 3 month trip for the summer and the AC is critical!

How long the AC lasts is a factor of how much you use the rig, so hard question to answer. Pull the inside cover, there are four long screws that hold the AC tight against the roof/gasket. I would check those as they do loosen up.

Don't cinch the bolts mentioned above down as tight as you can reef on them ... there is a foam gasket between the roof and A/C ... you only want to compress that gasket about 3/4" to 1". You may want to pop the outside shroud off and check the fan shaft for looseness. Hose out your condenser coil while you're at it.

Thanks, I have tightened the 4 long bolts. Easy job. I will do the roof check next after the wash and wax is completed.

I wouldn't consider my living room ac quiet, but does cool well. I noticed that it was installed at an angle with the front set off to the street side. Must have gotten one-eyed will on the build of this one. Anyway, four lag bolts through the ac base, only accessable with cover off. Standard mounting? Are any of these things exactly the same? John

Just a few years back when the A/C's had the inside intake grill right under the outside unit they were like Tim's ... 4 long bolts sandwiching the inner to the outer. I got an eye opener a few months back when I saw the newer whisper quiet A/C's were simply lagged to the plywood roof with no extra wood behind the roof plywood.

Great discussion--everything has worked for us after a little maintenance. Now to replace my Max Air vent cover that got smashed! Just buy another one and put it on!
