Mail forwarding companies in S.D. reviews
There seems to be a few mail forwarding companies in S.D. so how do I choose? I like the idea that Dakota Post has with their virtual mailbox where I can identify junk as well as real mail to be forwarded. Wheel tax seems to be just a minor issue due to the low charge but service, help with registration, drivers license and voting help is a priority.
Any thoughts?

We really like DakotaPost (formerly Alternative Resources). They basically took care of our vehicle registrations for a very minimal charge. The also have the information for voting. We have our mail sent twice/month, and generally get 8-10 pieces of mail, since we handle all of the bills online. The Virtual Mailbox looks like it will be pretty cool, but they are going to charge a premium for the service. We simply don't need to know in advance what mail we have. We would highly recommend DakotaPost.

compare prices, you'll see the differences in prices and flexiblity. we like the on demand from mydakotadress for $234 a year, so you don't have to be at one place. we live in mexico so they keep the mail until we request it....sometimes many months.

Definately have been more than happy with Dakota Post. There service is exceptional. The vehicle registration process is unbelievable. They set a time and then called us at that time and went over each form line by line as we filled it out. Wow. Voter registration quick and easy also.

We have been with Americas Mailbox since we went fulltime, 2 1/2 years ago. We went with their service that tosses all the junk mail automatically. We don't need to see the junk mail ahead of time. They provide registration and renewal service as well for a minimal charge. We have never had a problem with receiving mail, except for issues with the USPS causing delays. Really great people to work with. Oh, and there is no wheel tax in Pennington County where they are located at. http://www.americas-mailbox.com/

On top of state registration fees on both the truck and trailer, some of the counties impose a wheel tax, which in most of the counties is $4 per wheel on each vehicle, up to 4 wheels per vehicle. So, for a truck and a fifth wheel trailer with dual axles, that would be an additional $16 per vehicle each year at registration renewal. That is one of the reasons the owners of Americas Mailbox said they located their business in Pennington County.

Thank you. I think I remember someone telling me if I register my rv in South Dakota, I don't have to pay tax on the sale?

if you buy a rv and you are a resident of SD you only pay 3% sale tax, and then it is only on the difference if it is a trade in. as for moving your vehicle, that you already own, to SD I don't recall what I did way back then.

We use Americas Mail Box. We are very satisfied. First year they automatically handled the annual registration and charged us $10 for each vehicle. We asked them to forward the registrations and we did it from them on. Never a problem with the service!

We use Dakota Post, and they are great. We have sort of an unusual arrangement with them, and they were very understanding. I am still on active duty, so they aren't actually getting our mail yet. We're preparing to go full time when I retire, so we wanted to get a head start with the SD residency.
You have to spend at least one night in SD IOT qualify for the residency. Dakota Post has an agreement with one of the hotels. The hotel is inexpensive and right next to the large mall. We just told the front desk person why we were there and they knew exactly what paperwork we needed and prepared it all right on the spot. Even faxed it to Dakota Post for us. When we arrived at Dakota Post right when they opened, they had everything ready. Very nice people. We set up as much as we could before we went up, and they finalized all the paperwork right there. We were actually able to get the mailbox, driver's license for myself, DW, and my 16yo son, and register two vehicles before lunch. Try doing that where you live. All in all, I'm very happy with Dakota Post.

We have been happy with the service that we have been receiving from Americas Mail Box in Box Elder, SD. They took care of our registrations in a timely manner and send our mail very promptly. We cannot edit what they send to us in advance, ...but we have no complaints.
