Break away cable came out
I was unhooking and the break away cable caught
something in my box and pulled out of the
break away box on the mor/ryde. I know when it comes out it
locks up the wheels. I was able to push the
plastic pin only half way so I taped it in with a rubber
mallet. We are leaving on Wednesday, so I'm
assuming that since I replaced the break away
pin the wheels should not be locked any longer.
Am I assuming correctly, or have I done something
wrong? Please advise.

Should be fine. I've done that several times and though, didn't have to use mallet to re-insert plug, the system worked fine. All you need to do is have someone pull the plug while parked and you be at the wheels, and you should hear the brakes engage.

It should push back in by hand with some resistance.

I have never had to hit the pin to reinsert it. I would hook up and stand outside to observe the wheels while someone pull the rig to see if the brakes have released and your wheels are not in a locked position. Then if you want to check the system you can pull the pin and listen to hear if the brakes engage.

There is no way you should need a rubber mallet to replace the pullout on the breakaway. I would suspect you damaged something inside and you sure want to be sure it is ok before you are about to head out.
There are two wires going into the box, one will be hot and the other one should not be unless the pin is pulled out, if it is then you need to find the problem and replace the unit.
I just pulled mine several times and there is a click you can feel but it sure is not hard to push in. I am with hookman on this one.
You sure want to make sure this is operating properly before going down the road, you don't want that to activate at 60 mph unexpectedly.

I pushed it back in with my hand, but it would
Only go in about half way. When it went in half way I
felt a slight click, but it would not go any further
when I pushed by hand. I taped it slightly with
the rubber mallet and it went in all the way.

Just went out to check the break away pin.
I pulled it out fairly easily and I pushed it back
in fairly easily. I don't know why it was hard to
push it in the first time. At the end of the black
pin there are two plastic points and they are curved
In opposite directions. Nothing is broken off
on the plastic pin. Hopefully I'll know when we
try to pull away in the morning. Thank you
for your input.

I pull the pin and walk to each wheel with a compass and if the magnet is energized it will spin the needle.

One thing every RV owner should have is a 12V lighted tester, it has an alligator clip on one end of a wire to connect to ground and a sharp pointed probe to poke into wiring. If you had one of those it would take a matter of seconds to see if the switch is opening when the pin is inserted.
It sounds like it might be ok and your description is typical of the plastic pin, not to alarm you unnecessarily but personally I would want to make sure all is well by testing the wires and making sure it takes a bit of effort to pull the pin.

I've done that several times myself until I got the expanding breakaway tether from CW. Try rotating the pin and retry it. It should work. Good luck.

This pin is also something you want to check when you get in to pull out of truck stops. In those where you have to park in a truck parking area sometimes they aren't happy or think it's funny to pull that pin.

A while ago I read about how to make sure your breakaway cable doesn't get hung up on your hitch and pull the pin if making a tight turn. I took an 18" length of rubber hose and ran the cable through that. No problem at all now.

That pin goes in a particular way. f you pounded it in, you did not have in the correct rotation; should go in easily by hand, when all the slots are aligned properly.

Trip guy. Thanks for the suggestion of using
A 12volt tester. I have one and tested the wires
and there was no power, so I picked up a new
part and installed it and all is now fine. We
Left the Palm Springs area this morning
and there are no issues with the new break away
Unit. Thank you everyone for your assistance.
