Thank you MOC people, Thank you

Read several sites saying they were having trouble with slides not working and asking for ideas. Most or the ideas for help pointed at the batteries and checking them. I got to thinking I have not checked the water in the batteries of my Big Sky since I received it in April of 2011. Today I pulled the covers off both batteries and checked the water level in them. I could not see water in either one of them. It did not take much distiled water to bring it up to the level rings. Both check at full charge as I keep it pluged into a power box in th barn. Again this site has saved my butt.

THANKS AGAIN

Frank

I think it's fair to say that all of us have benefitted from the wisdom of others here. Glad we helped!

I have six 6 volt golf cart batteries, I check them every 2-3 months. In three years I think I have used about 1 gallon of distilled water.

I am not plugged in to anything, but have solar panels that keep them charged.

At first I had Optima and ran them for years in the Monty then I would hear chatter about the Golf cart batteries and there great performance so i went and purchased two of the biggest golf cart batteries they made, and put the Optima on the shelf in the shop.
I had those 2, 6 volt golf cart acid batteries for a while untill I got tired of checking them for water. I have Gels back in there now and never have to check them, 2 Optima's #D31M I bought them in 2/19/04 for $346.29 for the both of them, at the time it was expensive but it turned out to be a good buy, there still going, but I am looking at getting another pair I think after 9 years its about time. also I dont have any hydrogen gasses to contend with either.

Frank, Since you keep it plugged in all the time a smart charger helps keep batteries from going dry from overcharging. Your converter might already be equipped with such technology. Mine wasn't. On the advice of this forum I added one. http://www.iotaengineering.com/iq.htm

Frank, I can only echo the many thanks for all the valuable info I have discovered from this site. We purchased an 09 2980RL in Nov '12 from original owners. We experienced minor problems-blowing 30 amp fuse in landing gear, slides struggling to move, china bomb tires. I prefer to do my own maintenance and repairs so MOC is by my side at all times so I can refer to info. When I discovered water in kitchen floor flowing from wall next to shower I knew that%#&*( backflow valve was bad. Got on line and found the fix.

To all you MOC people who are willing to share and help us novices I salute and commend you. You guys and gals are willing to send photos, etc and offer help even though you are cross country. I hope to meet many of you sometime when we retire and hit the road until then I will keep the friendship going online.
