Entry Step Light
Does anyone have a fix for the entry step light? I noticed it only works with the spotlight. The best thing would be for the light to work with the porch light.

Just guessing, I'd say you'd have to terminate the existing wire leading to the step light. Then you'd have to pop the interior master switch panel away from the wall and tap into the porch light load wire ... then run a dedicated wire somehow down to the step light. We don't use the porch light much as not all bugs know not to be attracted to an orange light .

I've always thought the same. Common sense would seem to dictate having it work with the porch light.

Common sense, and Engineers don't go together. They don't teach that in college, yet

Just finished this very mod. I removed the step light wiring from the DS security light switch,(white with yellow stripe) and installed to a new lighted switch. I powered the switch by running a jumper wire from a 12v hot wire behind the master switch panel. Also jumped off of a cluster of ground wires to the switch. This was necessary for the light in the switch to work. Now I can switch on the step light by itself and I am reminded that it is on by the lighted red switch. Tim

Tim: Great idea on how to wire this. Never thought of removing the wire from that switch. Another mod I have to do now.

Scott, this is a very easy install. The hardest part was cutting the hole for the rocker switch to mount in. You might want to confirm the wire color coming fom the step light, I would think they would keep the color the same from year to year but better safe than sorry. Good luck and maybe Dea and I can drop down there to Nashville and do some camping some time! Tim

I jumped the wires behind the switch console. added the wire for the light to the porch switch.

Another reason for LEDs...bugs aren't attracted to them...

Thank you for everyone's help, I sincerely appreciate it.
I did modify the wiring, I took the wire off of the flood light and took the same color wire off of the porch light switch, then hooked them together in one terminal and plugged it back into the porch light switch.
Again Thanks everyone,
Dave Robinson

Just out of curiosity, how many of us have emailed Keystone about this? I know I haven't but we should as others have said this is only common sense.

Hello all. I have a 2022 Montana Legacy, so In Command system. There is a small yellow light just under the front door, that looks like it would light at least the bottom 3 steps. However, it does not turn on no matter what light I turn on on the panel, nor does it turn on when hooked to truck lights, flashers, turn signals etc. First Q is what is this light and how do I turn on? Maybe broken or bad connection, but maybe I’m just wrong about what it is.
Thanks

Mine is 2018 model - but if I touch the "exterior lights" button on the InCommand panel - it turns on the yellow step light, and that seems to be the only light on that circuit. The "security lights" button turns on both big-round scare lights and the LED over the hitch/pin box.

Many have taken their cover off the switch board and rewired it to the porch light. I think there are other posts in the Archives telling how this is or was done.

Rondo - when you say “many have taken the switch cover off” - do you mean the clear plastic cover over the InCommand BCM in the basement? My unit does not have a porch light, but it does have awning lights. Maybe it would be better if the step light came on with the awning lights.
I have not yet searched for old threads for this yet - but looking at the pic below, I suppose I would take the orange+white wire for my “exterior light” (step light) and splice them into the awning lights?
I notice the awning lights circuit has a note “5A max”…any idea if adding the step light to that circuit would exceed that?

One thing you might try to unplug the relay (black square things) on the BCM and plug it back in to make sure it is seated properly. I had a problem with my interior LED cove lighting…it would blink blink blink many times before it would come on. I actually swapped a couple of relays and it fixed my issue. I think the step light relay is the one highlighted below (basically count circuits and relays).
