The dreaded Dometic microwave latch!!
So off we go to the mini-storage for the pre-trip cleaning, vacuuming and mopping of the rig! Enter the rig and the microwave door is open. Based on forum knowledge, I knew that was not a good sign. Try to close it and no go! DW's response was the same, not good to go on vacation without a microwave. So I decide to do a little investigating and see the latch spring is hanging loose which of course means that the top of the line plastic hook that it attaches to has broken off. Time to do some innovative repairs. Grabbed a small drill bit and drilled a hole above the plastic tab and ran a couple of loops of thin wire through it to hook the spring to, and the innovative repair was a success. Door now latches, microwave popcorn is back on the menu and Dear Hubby is considered a hero! Will order a couple of the door latches from Dometic to have as spares, but for now, all is good.

Why not leave it like that? The wire is less likely to break than the high quality plastic piece.

That is very true! Guess some extra wire would be cheaper than replacement parts from Dometic anyway!

Where would we be without wire, duct tape, and WD-40?
