Decal removal

Just got a 2007 Montana 327 RLS and it has the bad decals that are peeling. I'm looking for info on the removal process. Dealer gave me some new ones. not worried about the install. Thanks in advance for the advice.

Posting moved to a more appropriate forum.

I removed our decals on our previous rig with a hand held hair dryer set on high, peeled the decals off using gloves (they do get hot!) and then used razor blades for the smaller pieces. Others have used heat guns. Once the decal is removed, there is still the glue residue to deal with. I used goo-gone, others have used other methods as well. As an aside, I am not sure the insurance topic is the proper location for your post. And, welcome to the forum!

Some have used a wallpaper steamer ($50 or so at Home Depot) that apparently worked pretty well. Maybe someone will post about it.

Heat gun works pretty well, with cleaning solvent on a rag for final cleanup.

Used wall paper steamer and acetone to remove the residue. Lots of info in the archives.

Tried removing the decals on our 08 Monty. Nothing is easy. Heat gun worked OK. Found a pinstripe removal tool at an automotive paint supply store. Looks like a white gum eraser with a mandrel for attaching to a drill motor. Does a similar job to the heat gun. Only advantage is not hot fingers. Used a spray on general glue and residur remover from the same auto body supply store. Worked better than GooGone.

To remove decals, I use a razor blade scraper. Put in a new blade. Take a sheet of real fine sandpaper and lay it on a flat smooth surface. Take the razor blade scraper and lay the blade on the sand paper and pull towards you. Always remember which side of the scraper is in the upward position. Pulling across the sand paper makes the blade smooth so that it will not scratch the trailer surface. You don't even need a heat gun or hair dryer. Clean sticky surface with naptha. Worked real well for me. Good luck....JB

I wish we had your dealer. We have tried to get at least some of the decals to replace our bad ones on our 2008. No luck getting them from our dealer, or Keystone. It really bothers us to have peeling decals.

Just took our 2012 345DBQ Mountaineer at this weekend and found the front cap peeling really bad. Took pictures and will contact our dealer and if needed Keystone, hope to get them replaced at no cost. But I guess we will have to wait and see. For the price of these campers I would hope they would stand behind their product.

Heat gun (be careful not to heat the fiberglas too much in one spot...it can warp) and a "plastic" putty knife or scraper (not to scratch the finish). Clean up with acetone or goo gone or the other stuff mentioned. I did it midday in California, so the surface was already hot. That helped a lot. It's hard work.

Good News: Contacted Keystone customer service and they agreed to pay for the new decals and the labor to remove and apply the new graphics. I was afraid that they would say that we had just ran out of our manufactured warranty, and we were out of luck. Just hope the new decals last a lot longer.

I used a razor blade to get the rest of the vinyl off, 3M adhesive remover and cleaner turns the residue to jelly, then it will easily scrape off with a plastic blade....you will need more than a few paper towels.

They probably won't.
