New Mexico line of travel?
We are thinking of taking Highways 54 and 70 from Santa Rosa, NM to Las Cruces, NM. Has anyone driven this route with their Monte?
What is I-25 like between Albaquerque to Las Cruces, NM? Is it mountainous in any part of it and is it advisable to drive it with the Monte at this time of year?
Recommendations needed on either of these routes? Yes or no???

We've taken the Monty from Albuquerque to Las Cruces to Deming almost every time we are out here. Usually stay at the Escapee park in Deming after the trip. Check for wind warnings. I-25 is fine but goes thru two steep canyons with wind socks to help out, but I've left a day early and on another occasion gone a day late to avoid those canyons when it was windy. The grades are steep, but doable and as I said we've done it 4 or 5 times and will go that way again.

I'd go to Albuquerque then down 25 to Las Cruces, 54 usually has construction and several towns to deal with.
X2 on what DQDick said on the wind, Friday might be one of those days in this area.

We travel 54 each fall and spring and like it. There was some construction when we came through in Nov. but nothing bad. We certainly never wished we had gone through Albuquerque

We have traveled both routes in both directions and have had no problems- 54 is less heavily traveled, therefore is a bit lonely- Traffic through Alb is always busy and FAST, but doable- Both routes have ups and downs, but nothing extreme- Fuel is available as are restaurants and campsites- Take your pick and enjoy either adventure- JMHO- Don

Okay 8.1al, what happened in Albuquerque to cause your consternation? We lived there for a while and I'm just curious (or nosey?). I can also certainly understand anyone having issue with any place for any reason, but you brought it up.

Take the Hatch cut off to Deming. No need to go thru Las Crusas.

I didn't say anything about Albuquerque. I said we found nothing on highway 54 that made us wish we had gone through Albuquerque.

we're camped out in Alamogordo, NM
We also live in Santa Fe, NM
I like 54 less traffic on road and better pace
only catch could be if they are shooting off missiles (1/2 hr max)
