Alaskan Highway washed out

I have read on another forum that the Alaskan Highway has been closed in two places due to a washout.

The first washout is at the South end of Kluane Lake between Haines Junction and Destruction Bay.

The second washout is between Teslin and the junction of the Stewart-Cassiar HIghway.

The damage is extensive and a date to reopen the highway has not been announced.

If you are taking the "Top of the World" Highway that should bypass all of the closed areas.

On the Escapees Forum I believe they indicated that the road was reopened but with severe limitations. Many commercial rigs backed up and they will be given priority so as to keep supplies flowing for the many towns up that direction. Good luck. Dennis
