Sun-proof attic vent cap
Ordered new mushroom attic vent cap from Stalkup's RV. New vent includes base and cap. Covered cap with foil/bitumen flashing tape. We'll see how this one holds up in the sun:

X2. It would be nice to find something that lasts and stays on.

A good coat of white paint on those caps will make them last a long time

Aerospace 303 about every month on the caps ... looking good so far after 2 years. The paint answer is also a good alternative. The stove vent cover is getting close to being on my paint list. We have put a man on the moon, but can't make a vent cover that won't yellow!

hopefully this one will be maintenance-free for a few years. if you've never used tar and aluminum flashing tape, check it out when you are at a builder's supply, or Lowe's and Home Depot. I was going to install the 6" cake pan like someone had mentioned on the forum, but decided the break-away strength of the plastic cap vs the cake pan, might prevent the base from being destroyed on the inevitable tree branch. the aluminum used to make the flashing tape is fairly heavy and will block the sun, but the plastic cap is still there as the weak point.

When we lived in Arizona, you could buy metal vent covers and most folks because of the sun, used them. I have not seen in recent years.
