Ice Maker
Well, my Magic Chef $74 ice maker has gone where ever ice makers go, the North Pole I guess. Anyway, I am in the market for a new one and am interested on any input on what to get or not get. Any good deals out there? I see that CW has a Dometic on sale for $300 with free shipping through Sunday.

I would not get the Camping World model. We have had two that lasted on average for 8 months. The only reason we got the second is we had the replacement warranty. It died just as the first one did. I now have a Magic Chef that is going on two years (continuous use either in the rig or the stickhouse) with no problems. Target and Home Depot usually put them on sale for $79 to $99. I am looking for a second so I don't have to carry the one we have back and forth. Just my thoughts and biased opinion!!

You just missed the Target sale, so theirs is now back to $139. Still beats CW as they are very fond of their $100 ice maker that they rip you $299 if you are a club member. Such a deal. From looking at many brands, I'd say they all came out of the same China factory bearing different labels such as Honeywell, Emerson, etc. I've had my "Emerson" $99 Target deal for over a year now and we use it at home when not in the RV. It gets used everyday for several hours. No issues thus far.

I have had the Emerson sold by Target for 2 years now and counting ... still making ice. I agree with above observations ... probably all made in same place in China, just different nameplates. In the instructions, it says after pluging it in let it sit for 30 minutes before trying to make ice. I've always followed that instruction whether it matters or not as I don't know if it's to give the freon / oil time to settle if you just got thru jostling it around or if it's for some other reason. CW has some good stuff, but most of the same stuff can be had elsewhere for fewer greenbacks.

I bought mine on E-Bay a few years ago, and it is still going strong.

We got the Emerson from Target a couple of years ago while on sale for around $100 and have used it daily since then. Target has it on sale several times a year. We also got a chest freezer that fits nicely in our 2980 from Target for a little over #$100 while on sale. Can't go wrong on either.

I got mine at Target a couple of years ago on clearance. I did not know they still handled them. Looks like I need to check back there. Failing that I can check out Stiles' site. Thanks for the input.

Mike,
This mornings Target salepaper has an Emerson portable icemaker on sale for $109 (reg $149). I guess inflation is catching up with them as well. I told DW we need to get one (and she agreed - Yayyy!) so I can quit carrying our one back and forth between the camper and the house.

Bought my second one today at Target $109. One less thing to lug back and forth from the house.
