Adding insulation
Has anyone added extra insulation to the under belly and if so what did you use?

Bob added the "pink stuff" in our 2955, but then a hydraulic hose broke and the insulation soaked it all up!

I have not added any insulation to the Montana, I did add some to a previous 5th wheel. Used rigid 3inch foam. Worked pretty good.

I plan on putting some of that bubblewrap with aluminum on both sides if I get a chance to drop the belly. It's thin enough not to interfere with any lines and or wiring and I'll be able to put the belly back up without a problem. While I do that, I will also put straps under my grey water and black water tanks also. You can buy the bubblewrap at any hardware store like Home Depot, Lowes, or Menards. It comes in different widths and in rolls. I've got the Artic Package but will like to put more in it!

Someone at the '09 Fall Rally had used the foam-board insulation (pink board or blue board, not sure which) to enhance the R value of the underbelly.
If you're interested, I could look into who it was and let you know.

At one time I pondered this as well. I just didn't have enough motivation to figure out how to pack the insulation in such a way as to still allow the heated air from the 2" furnace duct sticking down into the underbelly to do its job. If you just pack the underbelly full, there will be no place for the heated air to circulate around your tanks. I guess if you plan on RVing in weather just at or above 32 degrees, it wouldn't matter.

I put some of the 1/2 inch foam board in mine. I had one of the plastic underbelly panels off at the back of the camper so I slid a 8 foot long board in, that one went in, so I slid another one in. They got tight so I started using shorter pieces until I got them all the way to the front of of the camper. I had to take the screws out of the middle of the under belly panels to allow boards to pass. I don't know how much good it did but they are in there.

I would think if you could keep the area heated better the area would be warmer longer.

Only sure way to take care of this problem is not go where its cold :-) No work, easy to do and its warm. Lot easier driving than taking that underbelly off lol..............

Added bubble wrap under main slide carpet. I also have duct wrap type insulation lay ed on top of black in lower closer. With the duct wrap you are able to screw thought the black plastic and duck wrap which make the job much easier. One more important gain is to cover the metal frame with the wrap to cut heat loss there. Its is a great time to wrap and heat tape water lines, with my old model trailer pipe just lie in the open. I have always questioned how well that "small" duct off the heater can heat that much area? I have work camped and have seen -8 temps with no water freeze up.
