SD Slot on HP Pavillion dv8000

I bought a Sandisk micro sd card (with adapter) to download pictures from my cell phone. The pictures on on the micro SD card and I placed it into the adapter and then into the SD slot on my laptop. I clicked on "my computer" and the computer is not recognizing it. Are drivers needed and how do I tell? If needed, where do I get them and which one?

Do you have a smart phone? I leave the sd card in the phone and connect using the USB cable. The computer will look at it as a remote drive.

It could be that your computer does not have software to recognize info from your cell phone. I use a Mac most of the time and it recognizes almost anything I hook up to it. My HP with windows usually does not.

you can go online to either the maker of the micro sd card or the cell phone and look for the drives or a google search to find the drivers.

Well, I went to the Sandisk website searching for drivers and found out that a 4gb micro sd card is a HD card and anything less is not HD (high density). Should have bought the 2 gb one and would have been fine as the computer slot is only SD and will not read the HD one.

You might try and contact HP to confirm the capacity allowed in the DV8000 SD slot. Sometimes there might even be a firmware or some other update to enable larger capacity flash cards to be supported in your system.

The bottom of your laptop will show your model number. Goto www.hp.com and click on support for drivers, then type in the exact model number DV8xxx. Then go from there.

If the slot is hardware limited you won't be able to upgrade it, otherwise look for a firmware (fingers-crossed) upgrade.

This isn't a driver issue. You'll need to use a SDHC adapter for any card over 2GB. Go to eBay and search for "sdhc usb adapter", you can pick one up for several bucks. Once you have one, you put the memory card in the adapter then plug it into your USB port. You'll then be able to see the files in Windows Explorer.

I know the feeling!!!

I talked to my son last night and he did mention about the USB solution. He has one and I thought I would borrow his to check it. Meanwhile, I'm in the process of checking the HP site as Art mentioned.

THANK YOU, ART!! IT WORKED. WENT TO HP SITE AND FOUND THE PROBLEM. DOWNLOADED THE UPDATED DRIVER, INSTALLED, RESTARTED AND VOILA. IT READ THE CARD, WITH THE ADAPTER, AND THERE ARE THE PICTURES!!!

IS THE MOC A GREAT SITE OR WHAT.
