lap top stand
I have an 05 GMC and I am wondering who uses their laptop in their TV. I have "Streets and Trips" with GPS and would like to use it when on the road again verses my garmin gps. I need a lap top stand and I am wondering what brand, model that others use.
Have to wait a couple more weeks before I can drive as I am recovering from double bypass surgery. Getting cabin fever on this long week end.

Three or four years ago there was a lot of interest in laptop stands for the TV. The Jotto Desk (see previous post) is a good but pricey option. There used to be something that was much more reasonable. Turns out it was 1/2" galvanized pipe covered by flexible plastic tubing. You can build one your self for next to nothing. I suspect a "search" of Archived Posts would find pictures and more. I am pretty sure Oz was one of those who built their own.

The couple that use to live in Las Vegas and just bought a Big Sky. He built his own lap top stand which looked very good. I can't rember their user name but that seems to happen every once in awhile since passing 60.

I know there was a post on here about a year ago, maybe less, that someone had built their own laptop stand or table for the TV. I did a search but couldn't come up with it. I think it was under the Additions and Modifictions thread but not sure. Maybe someone will chime in here and let us know where or who that was.

Dick Driver had the 1/2" pipe model and it looked every bit as good as a commercial model. I never saw plans for it.

I had one of the ones made of 1/2" pipe with a plexiglass top. When I first mounted it with the hardware it comes with, it was fairly unstable, so I went to the hardware store and bought some additional pipe fittings to add another leg for stability. It worked pretty good, but was always in the wife's way due to having to locate it away from the stick shift of my manual tranny. I finally removed it and eventually gave it to one of my customers for his big truck.

I have one of these in my 2500 Dodge..works great for the laptop and swings easily for either the driver's or the passenger's positions.... http://www.ram-mount.com/... took maybe 15 minutes to bolt in to existing seat mounts in the floor and everything other than the 6 inch pipe stand can be removed with one twist knob....

We have one and I believe Rich does also. I do not know the web site any more. Maybe Rich does. We mounted ours in one of the cup holders. It is the pipe kind and we purchased on Ebay for around $30. Much cheaper than the Jotto. As mentioned above you can alter it with pipe pieces from the hardware store. It works great for us. This type is used by a lot of police, sherrif, etc.
Happy trails.

We made our own, but we were fortunate to have the use of a friend's facility; he had all the tools we needed.

Thanks everyone. Great ideas. Might try to build one as the summer goes on.
