Tags, Fifth Wheels, and the DMV
When you go to register or get the tag renewed for a fifth wheel, is it classified as a "trailer"? OR what? I'm trying to do research to find out how much the tag is going to cost me every year.
And just for curiosity's sake, how much do you all pay for the tags for your RV's? How much was it initially, and how much is it every year after that? What state are you in?

Your last sentence is the key. What state are you trying to register in?
Each one is done a little different.

Oops, that'd be helpful, eh? I'm in Oklahoma. From what I can tell, RV's and Automobiles are treated as one and the same, and it goes by how many years the RV/Auto itself has been registered in Oklahoma, for example, 1 to 4 years is 91 dollars a year, 5 to 10 is 81, and so on. Interesting. I would think 5th wheels would be treated as "trailers"... The terminology of what I found wasn't too clear on if "RV" meant Motorhomes, since they have engines, and that's why they are treated the same as automobiles? I could be off the mark. I wonder if Motorhome RV's and Towable RV's are treated differently in regards to tags? Hmmm

Are you considered 100% disabled??
If so, you may pay a very minimum fee.
Check on disability tags.

My 2007 Montana 3400RL tag fee was $581.80 in Georgia. I should have registered it as a "Home-built"...

Looks like you are on track.
Noncommercial vehicle registration rates, also known as tag fees, apply to the following vehicles:
* Automobiles
* Non commercial trucks
* Non agricultural trucks
* Travel trailers
* Motor homes
* Recreational vehicles
* Motorcycles
* Mopeds
Tag fees are paid to the OTC annually and, as stated above, are based on the number of years the vehicle has been registered in Oklahoma. Don't confuse this with the age of the vehicle. If a seven-year-old car is being registered in Oklahoma for the first time, the tag fee will be $91 the first through fourth year of registration fee, since the vehicle has never been registered in Oklahoma.
Here's the fee scale for tag fees:
* 1st through 4th year of registration: $91
* 5th through 8th year of registration: $81
* 9th through 12th year of registration: $61
* 13th through 16th year of registration: $41
* 17th year of registration and over: $21

Michigan has a permanent plate. Pay once for your unit and it's good for as long as you own it. Cannot tranfer to another unit. Rates are by weight. 0 thru 2500 pounds is $75, 2501 thru 10,000 is $200, 10,001 and more is $300.
Not positive on the 2500 pounds but the higher weights are correct

Your dealer should put you on the road fully taxed and tagged. Therefore he should be able to give you the information you want with a phone call. The exception occurs when you buy across state lines. Then it is more complicated. I have some experience with that. I bought the truck in North Carolina and the Montana in Missouri, but my domicile is in Texas. To get the trailer registered in Texas, I had to have a conversation with the state tax honcho and the tags were mailed to a New York campground from the Leon county tax office. By-the-way, in Texas, the fee varies by county. In Leon county, my fee is $125.00 annually + $14.00 annually to have it inspected.

Pa.-$27 for our size trailer. That`s per year. I believe we can purchase a life-time for approximately $110.
