Sweet 'N Sour Tossed Salad Dressing
Hello everyone. This is the recipe which I thought tasted like one of the salad dressings at the Blue Gate Restaurant.
Salad:
6-7 slices bacon
1/3 cup slivered almonds
torn letuce (Iceberg and/or romaine, leaf)
4-5 slices mild onion, separated into rings
1 can 10 oz. mandarin oranges, well drained
Dressing:
2 1/2 TBSP. vinegar
3 TBSP. honey
1/4 cup sugar
1/2 tsp. dry mustard
1/2 tsp. celery seed
1/2 tsp. paprika (sweet)
1/3 cup veg. oil
cook bacon until crisp--reserve 2 TBSP. fat. Crumble bacon and set aside.
Brown almonds in reserved bacon fat. Drain well and cool
Dressing: In a small saucepan or two cup glass measure, combine vinegar, honey, mustard, celery seed and paprika. Stir well, heat to dissolve sugar. Whisk in oil and set aside to cool slighly.
To assemble salad: In a large salad bowl, combine lettuce, onion rings, crumbled bacon, orange sections and almonds. Pour just enough dressing over salad to lightly coat ingredients. Toss gently and serve immediately. Any leftover dressing will keep in refrigerator in a coverd jar or container.
Enjoy!
