2009 Mid-Atlantic Rally
Hear ye, hear ye, hear ye (always wanted to do that heehee!!) we are in the formulating stages for next years Mid-Atlantic rally. After the discussions at this years rally several of the attendees expressed an interest in possibly having the rally in West Virginia so we are looking earnestly for suitable facilites. We would like to get an indication of who is interested. We are hoping to have it in the Beckley area (possible Pipestem resort if we can work out the details - thanks Gunner for the suggestion - we are trying). We want to organize a tour of the Beckley exhibition coal mine which should be fascinating for those who have not experienced anything of that sort. It is an actual mine that has been turned into a one hour tour with company store, museum, etc. We are strongly considering having the rally the first weekend of August to give us some separation from the holidays and the North American fall rally. In addition this will also allow our youngins (that's hillbilly for children, grandchildren, any children, etc.) to attend without affecting school attendance. Many more ideas will be forthcoming, so stay tuned....same Moc channel.....

Rich,
What fairgrounds are you referring to??? Looks like Pipestem is not a possibility, they won't reserve a block of sites and it is a park so reservations are through ReserveAmerica and I can't see how it would work. We are looking now along the I-81 corridor from Wytheville to LExington for possibilities. Have a couple potentials and will announce site for rally within the next month!! Want to be close to Beckley because I do want to have a group visit to the Exhibition Coal Mine. It is fascinating for anyone who has never seen where most of our electricity (50%) in the country comes from.

Bingo & Cathy,
I'm brand new to MOC, just having found the site so I'm not sure I'm doing this correctly, but "you don't know if you don't try so here goes.
We would love to go to Pipestem again. That's a beautiful area. Hope you can work it out for the Mid Atlantic Rally.

Keith,
Welcome to the forum. We tried to make arrangements at Pipestem, but they could not reserve a block of sites which we really need in order to keep everyone together. We are most likely going to announce in the next couple weeks that we will host the rally in the Wytheville area simply for the reason of the interstate access from all directions. I will be working on trying to arrange transportation for a day-trip to the Beckley area for not only the Exhibition Coal Mine but for a trip to Pipestem for the aerial tramway. If not we will have to car-pool, but we shall see what we can come up with. Keep an eye on this topic for further updates.

Bingo, We will be keeping an eye on this thread as well. This year there is a good possibility we will be in SE Penna the end of July. Just around the corner from WVA.

Bingo, I just looked at the dates for the Great Lakes Rally which are July 30, 31, August 1 and 2. As you haven't settled on dates as yet, I just wanted to point this out. My attendance at either rally would depend on my grandson's wedding next summer. They still haven't picked the date.
BTW- I DO NOT expect or desire anyone to set any rally dates around my schedule. As much as we would like to attend all MOC rallies we do understand the situation.

Glenn,
Dates are set for August 6-9, we will be there August 5. We are awaiting the final response from the campground and will announce the location this week. It will most likely be Fort Chiswell RV PArk near Wytheville, Va. Rates should be less than $30 a night. Keep tuned.

We stayed at Ft Chiswell Rv park on our way down to Florida last Month...Nice park..good choice.. Standard full hookups are 29.50 and they have the 10% G.S discount.. They should offer a group discount.

Kerry,
Fox-fire has no facilities for daily community meetings and/or meals, the pavillions next door (separate ownership now) are rented by a daily rate that is foreboding (we did consider it). The rally is the Va.-Mid-Atlantic rally, and at the last one in Staunton we mentioned WV and it was well-recevied. The lack of suitable facilities available in WV have us looking back in Va. Central location along the seaboard states is our aim, and Wytheville is easily accessible from the N,S,E and W via interstate. Nothing against Kentucky, but we are trying to stay eastward based and primarily in the Virginia area with this rally. Hope you will sign up to attend, lots of great forum based people can be met at these rallies.
