New 3500RL

Well Mrs and I finally made the trip up to Michigan last weekend to pick up the new Monty. We arrived around noon and dealer had her inside to do the PDI. All went really well and she was moved outside so we could camp in the parking lot and really check things out. keep in mind it was around 18 degrees and as expected the furnace was getting a workout. Next day we started back and stayed the night outside Ft Wayne. Once again no problems, but had to put up with the winds howling across the road to finish the run into St. Louis. Twice I saw 18 wheeler almost tip over. I became concerned and had to slow considerably. Once slowed down to around 55 handling was no problem. Now she's home and looking forward to warmer weather so we can get out a bit. Well that's the update. More to follow along with pics if I can get the darn camera to work.

Great news!! Congratulations on the new rig. You have just learned a valuable lesson about speed and crosswinds. I think a typical new owner mistake is trying to drive these rigs too fast. Seasoned folk tend to slow down to 60-65 or less even in calm conditions. Running at 70 or more is just asking for a tire failure with these Mission tires.

Hope your new 3500 exceeds your expectations. Happy RVing......

Mike and Elaine,

Congratulations on your new rig.

As well as these rigs tow you still must drive according to conditions. On our last trip we had one day of really windy conditions. It was so bad at one point that we almost parked! I do not like driving in really windy conditions.

TheRanch,

What are palor doors? Do all the models have them or only the 3500?

Thanks,

HamRad

HamRad, The 3500RL has the sliding doors for the rear living room, If ya dont make sure there latched real good they come loose and bend the track real bad! I have done it twice! Roy

Hamrad beat me to it. He is correct if you don't latch them for travel they will swing all over the place. While we were camping in the north of Michigan that furnace was chugging away to keep things warm. Seems to me we used a good amount of propane. I did find someplaces where cold air was coming in, but that is to be expected. There is just no way you can seal a trailer that has 4 slides. I do have some insulation mods in mind though. I think I can make it better for winter camping. I want to be able to use the monty all year round and not have to park her for the winter. On anothe note I think I figured out the signature part but photo's are still stumping me.

What dealer did you use in Michigan? We are in the process of purchasing through Lake Shore RV and are wondering how it went.

Thanks
