Moisture and mold around the windows?
Hello all,
I am experiencing moisture aka "sweat" on my windows due to the cold weather. 20 degrees. I have also found some mold on the window frame. It is a whitesh colored mold and I use clorox to kill it. Anyone know how to prevent this from happening. Maybe a de-humidifier? Also how do you keep the ceiling panels over the shower from forming sweat and forming on the walls as well. I do use the bathroom fan, fantastic fan and the 2nd a/c fan if necessary. Is this the only thing I can do, or am I doing something wrong. Thanks

This is a common problem in living in the RV during cold months. We use descecants in the bedroom and in the living area. Be sure to keep some ventilation to move moist air from inside the rig. When showering, washing dishes, or cooking steamy foods on the stove, we run vents to remove the moisture. This helps keep things dry and mildew free. When some is found, cleaning it up is the thing to do.

Thanks Stiles,
I have been doing exactly what your saying and I still have the problem. I will make it part of my monthly maintenance schedule. Thanks for the info.

Jeff,
Get yourself a de-humidifier. We had this problem when in cold wet/humid areas and this helps.
Also if you can don't leave your blinds closed all the time - this holds moisture in.
Walmart carries them sometimes - we bought ours from Sears.
Good luck, Laura
Note: Windex with ammonia will kill the mold also.

Jeff,
It is a Kenmore and cost about $170. That was 2 years ago in Texas.
We had to order it as the store did not have them in stock - but only took a few days to get it.
The other good thing with the dehumidifier is the trailer feels warmer because the air is drier and ours also put out some heat (not much but a little).
Hopefully we won't need to use ours again for a while.
Do some price comparing.
Good Luck,
Laura

Our method of keeping the moisture down is to keep a vent cracked open as well as allowing the vent flap over the kitchen range unlocked so that air can move out of the rig through it. Has worked for us fairly well. On really cold days we still get some moisture on the windows but it clears up readily as the day wears on. Don't have any mold or mildew.
