window awnings
Nancy wanting some window awnings. I'm thinking of doing the job myself, so asking if anyone has installed new window awnings on their Monty? This will be a completely new installation, there isnt any so will need the awning rails also. Any suggestions or anything I need to know? would pop-rivets be better or screws? thanks

You might take a look at some that have been "professionally" installed.

Done four on this unit,5 on the last unit, and two MH by myself. Easy job. If you can do a bird you should be okay.

I used screws when I did mine. Don't think pop rivets would hold in the Luan board behind the fiberglass. You only have 1/4 inch of board behind the fiberglass.

Ours were done by Fox RV in Middlebury, IN (not far from the Montana factory). They are not a dealership, but do a lot of warranty repair and restoration work on all kinds of RVs. They used stainless screws and put butyl rubber sealant behind the mounted top rail and support fittings. I don't think it would be too difficult as a DIY project, but I would approach it as a two person job. Take a look at other installations to get ideas about sizing and placement. (We chose to put one long shade over the DR & LR windows in the main slide of our unit.

Tom41: Sorry I left out on earlier post. I used screws supplied with awnings.

DIY it!!! I put my slide 2 awnings on and only needed help sliding the awning into the rail when I had mounted it to side of RV. I already had the window awnings, came with my used Monty.
I did NOT use the screws that came with the kit, purchased couple of packages of stainless 1" screws so I didn't have to worry about the dreaded weather induced oxidation (rust) thingy.
