Kodiak 4500
Does anyone have any experience with a Chev Kodiak 4500? My local dealer has a very good deal on a 2005 with all the bells and whistles including a B&W companion hitch. This will be towing a 3500RL.

I am looking at getting a 4500 Kodiak as well. I had the chance to talk with a fella at the Keystone plant last night. He tows a 358RL Cambridge and loves his Kodiak. His average fuel mileage is 11-12mpg towing his coach. It was one sharp looking tow vehicle! Here is a link to a dealership in the northeast that sells a variety of Kodiak's.

I was also told there is a shop in Goshen that does all the accessories for the 4500 Kodiak truck. I will be hunting for that shop next week during the rally.

That is all good news. I get 12.4 with my F350 6.0L so the difference is not that bad. Right now the dealer is at $54,000. I hope to close the deal this week after I crawl all over it and do the touchyfeely thing. I keep trying to find things to add to it but keep drawing a blank.

Yes, I will. Please do the same. I saw the rig at the Seattle RV show and fell in love with it and have made a deal that will work for me. My DW also liked it so that is a huge plus. I will PM you this week if all goes well.

Yes, I will. I guess the main thing about the truck is planned parking. I currently have that problem with the F350 but the width and length are the same so it shouldn't be that big of a deal. In my situation I have to consider the height until the stick house is gone. I drove semis for over 20 years and was a diesel mechanic for 7 so at least I have a clue. This is the first pickup I have really been excited about. I'm even thinking about digging out the old tools and doing all the maint. myself. Good grief............

The body is similar to what I have in my truck, but I've got a 3500.

We have a 4500 and love it. I first towed a Montana 3670RL which we traded in and now tow a Landmark Monticello. The Monticello has a GVW of 18000 and I'm close to that. The truck pulls with no problem. We have the 8.1l gas engine and are getting an ave 7.2 mpg. It's been as low as 5.2 when pulling and as high as 11 mpg when not pulling. Tank by tank varies a lot depending on what you're doing. At the time I ordered it (2003) the only rear end I could get was a 5.13 so I slow down when going up the mountains.
I've got the Vershauler bed from Monroe and it works out well. If you have any other specific questions let me know.

The 4500 has a 26000 pound weight limit with the one I looked at going across the CAT scales at 11,112 pounds with DW, 2 kids and full fuel(it did have about a 2000 pound hauler bed and conversion). It left a legal load of 14,888 pounds not much more the most 1 ton dually's. I ended up with a F550 with a Chariot vans conversion, which crosses the scales at 10,044 pounds, leaving me a legal load of 22,956( not that I would ever approach that).

Well, we bought the truck. I need to get a weight on it since none of the factory weights will apply. It has a "LINK" air ride suspension which is very heavy and it carries 90 gallons of fuel so we may be close to max when all the numbers are added up. But it sure looks great sitting in my parking spot. Right now the ride is a bit rough but the truck craves weight and that will come soon enough. The turning radius is incredible. I will change a few features as time goes on. I need to move the seats back about 6" since we are tall and I don't see aproblem with that. I will also build a center console for creature comforts while traveling since the design engineers forgot to make cup holders that actually hold a cup while moving. It came with a B&W turn-over ball and "Companion Hitch" but I will address that in another thread. I love the way it handles and can't wait to put it through it's paces. Please ask any questions and I'll try my best to answer with the information I have.......Dave

woodtnd,
Congrats on your new truck!!! I am filled with envy.
Any chance of getting some pics??? I have been on the phone this weekend with a few dealers w/ the 4500's. Also found 4 different Frieghtliner M2 Superchassis in Ok. Hoping to find that conversion shop in Goshen while I am there. =) I look forward to hearing your report on how your new tow vehicle tows your coach.
