Deal or No Deal
Well, tomorrow I will know if I got a deal with a 2006.5 3400RL with lots of the goodies on it/in it. If it is a deal, I will pick it up late next week.
I am hoping for Thursday so we can make it a four day weekend with it. Whoooppppiiii!!!!!
They have the Hijacker hitch that has the under the bed rails. Anyone know anything about them? Are there other hitches that have the under the bed rails? Sounds like a nice feature that I didn't even know existed.

Dick,
I hope you get the deal you need.
I have a standard Reese 16K hitch. I've only taken it out of the bed once. If it wasn't so heavy, it might have been removed two or three times over the past couple years. But I do know that I'd have loved to have gotten a hitch with under-the-bed rails so that when it was out, it didn't leave ANYTHING to block a smooth platform for cargo.
If you can go the extra bucks for that hitch, go for it.
I think I've heard at least one other brand name mentioned. (Other members will chime in.) I can't tell you if that brand's the best, or if it has problems another brand would alleviate. But the rails being out of the way is a great thing.
Enjoy!
Steve

Hope we see you parked next to our 3400 soon. As for hitches, we have the Pullrite Super 5th with under the bed rails and we love it. Three sections come apart and I can remove all pieces.

Dick, good luck with the new 3400. They are fabulous. IMHO the Hijacker hitches are among the best on the market. Mine is 10 years old and I have installed it on my last 3 trucks.

Thanks for your input. "I am soooo excited"....can you hear the tune to that song? Believe me, you don't want to hear me sing it .... Hope to meet up with you all at one of the rally's. I still have about a year or so before we snip the rope from the daily work thing. Hopefully one will be close to our neck of the woods in the NorthWest.
I am a bit nervous with such a big coach and being a 5vr. I am used to the TT which tracks differently that the 5vr. Hopefully, I don't run over too many curbs before I get the turns right. LOL

Good Luck Dick, will be glad to see that Wanabe title removed. You will be alright towing, just allow a little more swinging room than you would with the TT. Watch the mirrors - you should be able to see those twin axles in your mirror anyway you turn. Just take it easy for a while and you will be a pro in no time.

You are going to be very happy with the 3400.We have had our for 2 months and are now on the road. The 3400 is a BIG unit and we are still not 100% confident in being able to handle it.Be very careful and it will work out.Watch the rear end of that thing.

And it'd also be smart to watch how much it tends to cut corners. I've given ours as wide a turn area as possible, whenever possible. Still, I came close to clipping a small car that just had to pull up as close to the stop line as possible on a narrow road when I was attempting to turn left in front of it. If I hadn't stopped, I'd have smushed that little car.
Each time I corner with it, I watch in the mirrors to make sure I’m not running over anything. Sometimes, still, I have to go up on a curb when there’s no way to swing out far enough for a wide turn. Beats running over a car!

We put the 18K Reese Signature series hitch in our GMC. It is the under the floor type hitch. we also added a slider to the hitch since we have the standard bed in the truck. To this day, i have never had to use the slider. Our 3475 has the extended hitch on the front and even turning 90 degrees, i miss the cab of the truck . Two levers and the hitch and slider is out of the bed of the truck and no visable rails as we had in the older reese and truck. The Reese comes in the 16K and the 18K version.

Now that 18K Reese Signature sounds nice Ken. Are they light enough for one person to take off with breaking your back?
Thanks again everyone for your encouraging words and feed back. Mary and I are leaving now to do the pre-PDI. I hope I gleaned enough from this forum to know most of the things to look for.

Checklist is the name of the game. Write it down and you won't have to remembe it...but you already know that:>) People laugh at me for my checklist, however, when I follow them I never forget anything...except where I put the list.

Mary and I will be picking up our new Monty Friday. Desert Sunset. This was our second choice. The Sapphire was no where to be found. I will get the hitch installed then as well. It will be a long busy day but we are really looking forward to it. I decided on the Reese Signature hitch with the slider option. I know I have the new cap that is supposed to take care of this situation but something the RichFAA said that made me want to be sure it will work in all situations (different odd angles).
We did a pre-PDI and only found a couple minor cosmetic things that needed tweaked. We didn't have electric or water at this time so we will not able to check that out till Friday.
So, my signature now shows a pic of it as it looks in the lot. I will update it with something in a more natural area when we get a chance.
