50 Amp Service Split
On our first winter trip to Florida, I was thrilled to have the 50 amp service, so we could run and electric heater.
Would you believe, we found that we had no more capacity than with the 30 amp service. As you probably know, there are no wireing diagrams available.
After much cover removing and checking with a meter, I discovered that the 20 amp side of the 50 amp service goes only to the air conditioner.
I added an outlet on the side of the cabinet, near the breakers and wired it to the air conditioner breaker. Now in the winter we use only that outlet for an electric heater and can still use the many other appliances on the 30 amp side.
Running the frig on electric, the hot water heater, coffee pot, microwave, washer/dryer, air conditioner and/or electric heater, is a bunch! Of course you could try to run all of those at once, however most of us don't.
