Shocking Experience
Has anyone ever experienced being shocked by touching the metal on the entry door? The weird thing is that I only get shocked when the door is open, not when it's closed. Is there any way that the ground could run to the door when it's open? This just started happening between the time I opened the unit this morning and when I went to close it this evening. Strange....!!!!

I had that happen to me one time on a motorhome, it turned out there was a short in the toilet. It only did it when it was plugged into 110 but it was hard to track down and I was zapped a view times. Don't know that I was any help but........

You have a ground short issue, make sure that the coach is grounded correctly.

I sometimes get a shock when the door is open. It depends on who is standing there.

Look at the power connector on the trailer. It is probably a bad connection there. It takes a lot of punishment when connecting and disconnecting the powerer cord. My best first guess.

Thanks for the feed-back everybody....especially you, John. When I think about it, I must have seen my own reflection in the door when I was shocked.

I did that once - got a pretty good jolt ! I had on tennis shoes, it had been raining and I was on a metal step stand. When I reached out and touched the metal ZAP !! When I did some research and decided to look for a short I started with how I was plugged in. I've learned my lesson, so no need to lecture me, ok? It turned out I had two 100' extension cords plugged into an outside outlet at the house by using an adapter. One of those extension cords was one that I used to use with a hedge trimmer, so naturally it had been cut six or seven times and spliced back together each time + it had the ground plug snipped off (not sure whether it was broken off or cut to fit a 2 prong outlet). So I probably had reversed polarity as well as no ground. Needless to say those went into the trash followed by bigger better extension cords and eventually a "real" RV hookup with a 30 amp receptacle with an underground conduited line.

Usually, when you get a shock when touhing metal on the rig while standing on the ground, it means there is a ground missing. One time when I plugged into a receptacle in a campground (an older one) I got shocked. So I secretly opened the receptacle and found, yes you guessed it, no ground. I immediately questioned the campground manager and he came and fixed it.
