Future Montana Owner!!

Hi All,
The names' ak_traveler and I am looking at purchasing a Montana fifth wheel in the near future (possibly next spring). I just found this forum through RV.Net and wanted to stop by and check it out. I also would like to hear from some of you on how you like your Montana 5'vers and what you tow them with. My particular TV is a 2005 Ford F350 CC LB 6.0 PSD 4x4 truck.

The Montana models I am especially interested in are the #3685FL and the #3295RK models.

My current RV is a 32' travel trailer and after watching a few fifth wheels back easily into the same space I had trouble with this last outing (it was a pretty crowded rv park) I decided a fifth wheel was definitely on the agenda! I had looked at Montana fifth wheels before and really liked them and this trip cinched it!

I have owned both TT's and the fifth wheel is the best. I owna 2980RL and it suits our needs just fine. I think the Monty is the best bang for the buck, and they tow wonderfull. I pull mine with a 2005 Chevy Duramax/Allison 2500HD. I am sure the guys on this site will help you very much and they have all the bases covered. These people have all lot of experience and knowledge and very willing to help. Welcome and don't delay get that Monty today.

Well, you should have NO problem with your truck with either model. I pull a 2003 3295 RK with the F-250 Super Cab version of your truck and all has been well so far, though air bags ARE on my list of "to dos."

The 3295 was not my first choice, but we found a very good deal from the first owner and have grown to love it. It is a VERY spacious model!

I just responded to another post about backing a TT versus a 5er, and will say that I STILL find the TT easier after over five months of owning the Montana. Perhaps it is just that I have backed TTs since I was old enough to drive and 5ers are still relatively new to me. I would encourage you to go to a deserted parking lot and practice before heading to the campground for the first time, especially if the sites are going to be tight.

Fordzilla has the same TV as you do and he just got a 3685FL. He just loves it! We camp with them and he really enjoys the FL with the two sofas. Please join in the MOC it is LOTS of FUN!

We pull the 3475 with the same tow vehicle and couldn't be happier with it. Just returned from the Cascades and Rocky mountains. What a pleasure.

Welcome aboard, Wes and Linda! Our TV is the F250 shortbed version of your truck. We're towing a 2003 3295RK loaded to the hilt. You'll love the way your truck pulls the Montana up and down the mountains and you'll love the way the Montana tows. Both of those models are excellent choices, but then I don't know of any Montana model that is not a good choice. Keep us posted as decision time nears!

JD, hang in there! Give it some more time backing the FW and I'd bet you'll find it much easier to do. You first have to forget everything you ever learned about backing a TT.

Hi there AK. Hubby and I JUST got home with our 2005 3295, and we absolutely love it.. We are towing with a GMC 2500 HD Duramax/Allison, and except for the marginal road work that seemed to be standard, through NE... we hardly knew the Monty was back there... DO BE SURE to have your dealer go through ALL the systems with you.. and really REALLY apy attention to what they say about operating all of them... (that way, you won't be up in the middle of the night trying to figure out why the AC turned off on you.. and can't read what's left of the brochure on the remote!!!)
We are moving our stuff into ours in the next week and are going to be fulltimers by the end of the month. So exciting.. You will not go wrong in choosing a Monty...

Welcome Wes and Linda, We have the 2980rl and it fits us just right. I also like the 3400 modle. As other has said any Montana will do. Take your time and look them over.

AK Traveler, We have a similar set up to what you are thinking. Except we have an '04 trailer and a '04 F350. We have no problems so far towing the 3685 wherever we want to. It is a little longer than our previous trailer and that has held us up from going to some of the smaller campgrounds that we used to go to before we got a fifth wheel. We really like the 3685 with the living area up front. We have two teenage children that each need there space. With the two separate beds they each can choose when they want to put there bed out to go to sleep and the living area is plenty big enough to hold 6 adults comfortably during a rain shower. Or just to relax and get out of the sun for a while. We like the front part because the campgrounds we frequent have nothing to see behind the trailer and everything to see in front. We like to sit up there and look out over the campers beside us.

Welcome Wes and Linda to the MOC. We tow our 3685FL with the Ford F-350 TD. 6.0. We can hardly tell it's there. Good luck on your choice.

Welcome! We are newbies to RVing. Just got our Montana 3295RK today! We have been searching for an RV for over a year. After finding this forum & learning how Montana RV owners liked the units we decided to get one. Our main use for an RV is going to dog shows, so we focused on a floor plan that would give us the room we needed for crates & show gear. Which ever model you choose I'm sure you'll love the rig!
