My closet clip broke!
I went to close the closet door and the clip broke! Has anyone else had this happen?

YEP! Pretty common thing. Our local Keystone dealer has them in stock so I imagine other RV supply outlets carry them also. Get a couple extras for the next time.

Mine didn't break I just took them off after first outing. I then put spring clamp on inside door and spring tension curtain rod on outside door for travel. No more broken fingernails opening doors.

ours broke in our 2003 montana. I used GOOP glue to glue it back together. the stuff works great on everything. Don't leave home without it. It can be found everywhere, Lowes, home Depot, Walmart etc.

We had so many break that we took them off completely. Use spring tension rods to keep them closed when underway.

We have had one break already as well. Our dealer had a whole bin of them, so I get the impression its a fairly common problem.

We only use ours when we're traveling. When we're parked, we reverse the doors ... right door to the left, left door to the right. I have tendonitis in both wrists and we started reversing the doors to save my wrists. The fact that it saves wear and tear on the clips is just an added bonus. We do, however, have a couple of extras ... just in case.

WHEN YOU INSTALL THOSE NEW CLIPS{AND EVERYBODY WILL ) DONT SCREW THE HOLDING SCREW ALL THE WAY IN, LEAVE JUST A LITTLE SLACK,BUT TIGHT ENOUGH TO CATCH THIS WILL GIVE THE LITTLE "FORGIVENESS" THAT WILL KEEP IT FROM BREAKING THE NEXT TIME. -----dAVE

I like Vicki's solution! Sorry about the tendonitis though. One thing that I have tried to do to keep from stressing the clip is slide the door just short of locking and then gently open the clip and slide the door the rest of the way to lock. With a little practice you can do it with one hand by using the mirror trim to move the door. So far the clips seem to hold up better with this technique.

Between breaking fingernails and clips I don't use them any more either. We do like Vicki when we are parked and Bill made me some poles to fit with little knobs on one end to grab onto and I put them into the slide when we are traveling

Countryfolk (Skip & Mary)have a neat fix for the plastic clip that involves riviting thin steel shim stock to the back of the clip. They are here at the rally, I'll mention this thread to Skip, and perhaps he will explain it in more detail.

Why is it that manufacturers put on such "MICKEY MOUSE" items on a supposedly well built rig. ??
I love the trailer but hate some of the cheap things that they put it together with....

I think one of our clips was broken when we purchased our previously enjoyed unit. Just replaced it, but I like the ideas put forth on this thread - reverse the doors when parked - tension rods to keep the doors shut while traveling. Thanks members!

And remember one of the first rules of RVing - it something breaks, buy a replacement, AND a spare, and you'll never need the spare!

Skyguy, I was going to say pretty much the same thing! Very early in our fulltiming we read about these clips breaking so we bought a couple of spares. I'm not even sure where those spares are. After owning this Montana for 38 months and fulltiming in it for 30 months we've never broken a single clip. I'm convinced reversing the doors is a major factor since that means the only time the clips are used is when preparing to hit the road and when setting up at a new site. Closing the doors gently also sounds like a good idea.
