We haven't had any fraying as yet, but the cut edges are under the step and not exposed th traffic. Anyway, I guess if it did fray some I could just cut the stringgy stuff when needed.

I made ours also, same way as Emmel. Still in use after 4-6 years. Kept the dog, and us, from slipping and from tracking some of the outside inside. The bottom cover is fastened with springs since we have to remove it to close the steps.

Skip,
Do you think the carpet you purchased is thicker than that they sell in the premade step covers? No one else mentioned taking off one cover so as to close the steps. That was why Al asked the question to begin with, he always thought that would be a problem.
Such an easy thing, so much confusion for us!

Carol;
I don't know it there is a difference, probably is. Ours closes most of the way with it on, but I wanted it CLOSED. I didn't want to take the chance it would vibrate open.

Skip,
POINT WELL TAKEN! Our thought process exactly.
OKKK, you MOC'ers with the store bought versions, do you have to take off the carpet off of one step??

Have had blue step covers with springs to hold them on since day 1. Pat hates cleaning and these help to hold down the dirt. Have never had to remove a cover to close the steps. We fold them up as normal and then step hard on the handle to ensure that the steps stay put while traveling. The dog is quite happy to go in and out with the covers on--and it really helps clean off his paws. We just spent a wet weekend out with the dog in tow and the combo of carpet at the bottom of the steps, step covers and a throw rug just inside the door saved us a bunch of clean-up.

We have the blue ones and they stay on all year,unless theres a big blow. Helped with keeping house clean and our Brittany has bad hips and spine. It really helped him, more sure footed. We also fold our steps in without removing.

I bought my green ones at CW and they stay on year round. No problems closing the steps at all.

Our step covers have about 1 inch of clearance on each side, maybe a little more. They fold up nicely for travel and have never fallen down. We leave them on all the time and they work great. Just put them around the step, apply the springs, and move on to your next adventure.

We have them and had them on our old trailer steps. The dog was very uneasy going up and down without the carpet.(Had to carry her). I think it gives her better traction. We have blue.

We have been in some really high winds and the step covers have never come off. Also the ones at WalMart are not the same quality as CW. Don't get me wrong, I love WallyWorld (the CEO and President, Lee Scott is my second cousin), but their quality is not always the best.

We do also. Our lab has been having troubles with the steps. He's gotten caught a couple of times. He now tries to jump straight to the top step.

Our dog also has difaculty going up the steps, he rus up and gets banged up on the top step in thr trailer, he jumpsthe last step. I dont think they see very well, with the see through steps it almost like a cattel guard crossing but for a dog. I did solve it a little by putting a small landing ( CW Stool ) it helped some
