new steps
I was at my dealer the other day and saw a new Montana with these new steps. They are sturdier than the old ones by far. They just fold up and latch to the door frame it looks good but wonder how they will travel going down our great roads. [/img]

Look nice. Likely an improvement. Not a significant factor in an overall evaluation of quality, at least for us. A vendor bolt on.

Got to be better than what they've used the last couple of years.

Those steps are from MORryde, and there will be a bolt on hand rail coming out soon. Just added them to our SOB two weeks ago.

I like the concept I just wish they would slide under the door horizontally. Something like the U-Haul trucks ramp. I wonder what they look like folded up when you are looking through your reiarview mirror.

Might be to long for tight places like truck stops would not work here at the S&B as we are too close to the house.

I looked at those steps last year at the fall rally.
They would not fit in the storage area for travel, would not fit in my short truck bed with my tool box. And the fact that they did not fold is why I walked away.
We are happy with our RV-co.com platform/steps. Fold up nice for basement storage.

If they are folded up against the door, will that prevent someone from opening the door from the inside? Kids...and pranks.

Joe-- These steps are different from the ones we saw at Mor/Ryde last year. Those at the Mor/Ryde tour clipped on and had to be stored in the back of the TV or in the basement. These fold up and are on the outside of the door. I'm interested in seeing them and what they look like when they are up and stored for travel. Guess we'll see them at the Fall Rally in about 30 days!

I saw a video very recently about the updated steps. They actually fold up to the inside of the door frame and are totally inside the Montana when the door is closed. I can see where these would be beneficial for a heavy person or one with physical impairment. For now my factory steps are working and holding up just fine.

We did a tour of MORryde while at our SOB Rally and Gary Wheeler, Road Rep with MORryde, was showing those steps, he jumped up and down on them to show how sturdy they are.
Yes to drop them down you do need some extra room, so you need to pick you parking spot in a rest area with care.
And even tho they are very sturdy, they lift up and store inside the door easily.
We're just waiting for the hand rail to put on ours.

Our OEM steps are trash they have already failed and been welded and reinforced. We will buy some sturdy steps but these will not work f or us.

I am looking at a new 3611RL that has those steps. I would think that the steps need to be clean and dry before folding up inside.

After seeing the video the steps on the 3611RL do not rest on the ground as these do. They do fold up inside the door however.

I really don't think we would like the dirty steps inside the Montana, not for us.

We saw them on a couple of the new fifth wheels at Camping World a few weeks ago. They certainly feel more sturdy than the stock steps but seem awkward and I'm not sure how I feel about how they are stored. The ones we saw went right to the ground as shown in the pic above but I wonder how they would be in a site that isn't quite level, do the feet on them adjust/extend?

The Glowstep revolution although a $500+ item folds into the same area of the stock diving board steps, have the ability to adjust the rise and thread to suit the ground to unit floor and adjustments on the "feet" for front to back out of level.

For most traveling situations, these new steps seem like a good solution. Problem is, when you have a separate platform with other steps on your lot, these steps are in the way. You can't get through the door, unless the steps are down. Putting them down will run into the platform. Of course, one can remove a few securing bolts and remove the steps, but then where do you store them? I thought the other collapsable steps were very functional, now there's a new solution with yet other limitations, and yes, you'll need the space (larger footprint) to get these new steps in place. Maybe MORryde should have gotten further input.
