Black tank odor
Needing help. When we flush toilet the odor comes into rv. I'm assuming the vent is clogged. When I go on top of rv, I tried the sniff test over vents. No smell. Which of the 3 vents is black tank and can I stick a hose down to clear. Thanks for any help. The wife would appreciate it even more...

If you have the exhaust fan in the bathroom running when you flush it could be drawing the odor back into the room.

I will agree. Fill the bowl when flushing first then dump the toilet so the valve is only opened as little as possible. My fan is a high powered fan and will pull gas in from the tank if left open too long.

I posted on this exact topic a few weeks ago. After 11 years it was the first time I had the issue when I brought the 5'er out of 5 month winter storage. Not smelling sewer at the vent pipe indicates to me there is a blockage. Went on the roof and stuck a hose down the black tank vent. It was the one closest to the toilet room. Never felt an obstruction when lowering the hose in the vent but once I flushed it with a generous flow of water my problem went away. I was pleased the fix prove to be so easy. Jim

Thanks everyone for replies. So far we've been trying the fill the bowl and turn fan off idea. And it has been working. Still curious why I couldn't smell anything from vent pipe. Guess the ole sniffer ain't what it use to be...

If you are still trying to determine which stack is the sewer, have someone flush the toilet while you are conducting your sniffing exercise. This will create some turbulence and you have a good chance of smelling and hearing which one it is. Good luck.

Do not think of Robin Williams when you do this.

I checked my vents on the black tank by running water from the top of the vent through the the black tank. With the black tank drain open you should see clear water running out of the drain. You do need to have a clear section of pipe to see water coming out.
