New Truck is Here!!
Picked up my new 2016 Ram 3500 yesterday. All I can say about it is WOW! This thing does everything except serve coffee and donuts on the hour and I am not to sure that it doesn't do that either. Still reading the manual to figure everything out on it. This is a Hauling Monster, 385 hp & 900 lb. ft. of torque!! Now to start dressing it up some!
Update: I have been asked what are the towing specs for this truck so here they are:
31,210 Tow Capacity
7390 Payload Capacity

Congratulations on the new truck. Maybe now you won't mind driving out to that campground in California to give that lady a look at your dog!

sambam: That's a good idea, need to put on a few miles before I start towing.
Thanks guys

Scott nice looking new ride. With that kind of power what are the GVWR and the CGVWR? In other words what kind of pin weight and total TV and Trailer weight is that truck rated for? I will be upgrading my TV in a few more years and like to know how the big three heavy duty pickups are improving.
Thanks in advance.

It'll tow over 31,000 lbs. and pin weight is over 7000 lbs. I can't remember the exact numbers. Right now Dodge is the leader of the pack in the heavy duty 3500 class. Also, Dodge is the only one that has their trucks SAE Towing certified.

900 foot pounds of torque?? Good grief!! That sounds like it could pull hell through a knot-hole! Hope the rearend and transmission can stand up to that. Nice truck!

Great truck. They all just keep on getting better.
Lynwood
Ram is the only HD truck that the SAE J2807 tow ratings. The 1/2 trucks are J2807 rated. If you read those ratings you wonder how much they mean. The one ton trucks are rated higher but they are held to a lower standard. If you haven't read the J2807 standards you should.

Man I need a new truck! Well not really but I sure do like new trucks.
FWIW and not to start a flame war or any type of brand/model comparison but Ford met SAE J2807 standard on the F-450PU and the numbers didn't change much. If they followed the same internal testing to assign ratings to the 250/350 I would expect SAE J2807 ratings "should" remain close to original as well for those platforms. Hopefully someday soon the big 3 will all do the same testing.
