Asheville recommendations or road warnings?
We are looking at NC campgrounds. Of particular interest is Ashville or Boone. Recommendations? Any roads to avoid or consider? Steep? Winding, rear bumper dragging scary stuff?

We stayed at www.campfirelodgings.com/
The view is spectacular, but the road into the place is up a mountain, steep and windy and narrow. If you decide to go here, call and make a reservation, and try to get one of the view sites.
We probably wouldn't go back cause of the road in.

Thanks Tom. That is exactly the kind of advice I am looking for. I gan work my nerve up to get there, however I am afraid of damaging my camper.

Ashville KOA West === NO. Sits right along the interstate. Truck noise ALL night long.
Boone = Grandfather Mtn. Campground - Marginal at best.

Another vote for Mama Gerties. The pull-throughs down below can be a bit short, with a steep entry and exit out of each site, but the sites up top have great views and are easy to back into. Very steep hill to get into the campground, but had no problem with my old 2500 towing a 39' 3400RL.

We've been to Campfire Lodgings twice and would definitely go back. The road isn't that bad. We had no trouble getting up and down. Do get a view site.

There is a nice campground in Glendale Springs, NC. It is about 30 miles north on the Blue Ridge Parkway. They have a lake for fishing, about 8 acres in size. The name is Raccoon Holler. They have a web site. We spend the month of October there every year.
