Carrying a generator on the 5er's hitch
Does anyone carry a generator on a "carry all" attached to the receiver on the 5th wheel. Mine is a 2" and I'm not sure the connection to the trailer is sufficient to carry 100 lbs or so.

Some on the MOC have made a dual receiver type hitch fastened to each IBeam for a cargo mount on the back of the fiver. A search may lead you to one or more of those previous posts. If you are inquiring about the factory receiver hitch on some Montanas ... I wouldn't trust carrying a package of paper plates on it ... if you get to looking, there just isn't anything to it ... the welds are pathetic.
Here's just one of many posts with a few photos on adding a rear cargo deck. http://www.montanaowners.com/forums/...enerator,mount

I wouldn't trust it either.. but, I have seen genny's carried on a mount that attaches to the pin box. Sturdy.. not subject to the jostling at the rear of that Loooonnngggg cantilever.

Currently we only carry our bikes back there. Next year, the plan is to build a double receiver set up back there and mount the bikes on the front of the truck. Ran out of money this year so all that's a next year project. I try not to even stand on the current set up.

Maybe Keystone feels the same way. Our new unit does not have hitch.

Got mine stapped down tight in front of the 5th wheel hitch in the bed of the truck. Been traveling like this for a couple of yrs. no problems.

My Honda generator travels in the front bay where the onboard Onan would go (if I had one). This may change should the need arise or I find a better place for it. We do have a bicycle rack that we plug in to the receiver that came with our unit. We've carried 2 bikes on it since new.

Mine are also in the front generator location(pair of Honda 2000's)-out of sight and out of mind.

Wow.. yesterday, I saw a Cougar in Santa Rosa, CA carrying a dirt bike on the back of the 5er..Looked very steady.. I think it was a 2" hitch config. The hitches are strong, but my Montana frame doesn't look very strong.. especially at the end of a long cantilever continually flexing. Would it conceivably work harden and break like bending a piece of steel back and forth in a vise until....

I made a hitch mounted to the frame of my Moutaineer, two inch receiver. Pull my Kubota RTV on a short trailer behind the Monty. Over long, but it works and so far, no problems.

I had a 2" receiver hitch custom made on the back of our Montana. We have a platform mounted in it with a 2" receiver on the back of the platform. We carry a blue 34 gal port holding tank on the left side of it and a Yamaha 2400 gen(camoed with a Weber grill cover) on the right side of it. Holding tank is ratchet strapped and cable locked. Gen is bolted and cable locked to it. Swagman bike rack is in the 2" receiver on the back of the platform cayying 2 bikes. It's pretty stable, strong, and theft deterrent. Works for us.
