Battery maintenance... better late than never?
Got caught up in daily, weekly, monthly, yearly non-travelling business and completely ignored the batteries. We will see if it comes back to bite me in the wallet. 6 6-volt Golf Cart batteries.
I serviced them today and will wait for a week or so to check the specific gravity. Keeping my fingers crossed.
A slide-show of the batteries:

As long as the cells were above water, you should be fine.

Ozz since you sell RV items, why not put an automatic filling system on your batteries? I've seen them and the people that have them love them because they only have to check the reservoir instead of each battery cell. Keeping my fingers crossed for you and your batteries!

Thanks, if we were on the road, I would have given them more attention, I hate to cave in to an automatic system, I rather enjoy the ritual of maintaining them. With a busy A/C service and EBay business, just didn't take the time
Will now, got my hand spanked. :-)

With your new solar system, why not spend the dough and put 6 new ones in. .

Jim,
When you get you solar installed, turn off the Converter and let the solar controller do the charging. It won't over change your batteries. Mine use very little water, and changed everyday the shine shines. I run all DC load on batteries/solar, even when camping at site with 50 Amp Service. If I can get some sun during the day I am good.
If anyone ever needs to get new batteries, try your local Golf Cart Shop. They don't normally ship, but you can find some good deals. Here is my local guy, I got mine from (six) Trojan T-105 6-volt Golf Car Batteries, $104.95 each (I think the were on sale in March 2010 when I bought them and paid $94.95 each).

I'm just about ready to pull my converter out since the inverter and solar both charge the four T-105s. I thought about getting the Trojan automatic watering system until I found out how much it costs. The batteries were bad enough!

Thanks John and David, Walt, I didn't know what it would cost, but when retired, a guy should have time to do the battery maintenance. The Midnight Solar Charger is probably one of the best out there, so I will use that.

Hope they work for you. Since things happen, that's why I went for sealed batteries.
