Southern Colorado Fires - UPDATE
US 160 over Wolf Creek Pass is closed.
C0 149 between South Fork and Creede is closed.
Town of South Fork is under mandatory evacuation.
All RV parks in the area evacuated.
Fire south of US 160 between La Veta and Walsenburg and I-25 is also 0% contained and evacuations are on going in that area. No information on highway closures.
July 2 - Just heard that the highways are back open, South Fork residents have returned home, and the local RV parks are back open. So if anyone had plans to go that way you should be OK now. They do caution that the fire is still burning and there will still be fire equipment moving about on the highways and care should be taken.
But great news otherwise as no structures are known to be lost.

Yeah, seems like the whole state is on fire again this summer. My wife and I were just trying to picture the evacuation of the Fun Valley resort west of south Fork.

Here in Canon City we are recovering well from the fire just West of town at the Royal Gorge Bridge. We lost 42 of the 48 buildings at the bridge. The bridge did not have any significant damage. Just a few planks scorched.
We get a lot of smoke in the evenings coming from the South Fork fire 100 miles away as the crow flies. The days are pretty good with tourist doing their thing. Lots of rafting.
I guess there are 8 fires in the state. Most of Colorado is not affected by fire. If you are in a fire area one would feel different.
Our prayers are with those in the fire areas and for the ones who have lost their homes. 512 homes lost at present in Black Forest near Colorado Springs and many others throughout the state.

This was taken at Fun Valley RV Park from the front of our HC on Thursday, as we were told to get, when the sky looks like this, don't argue, just get.

How did the evacuation go from Fun Valley? With only one way out and all those rigs, it must have been a nightmare. Glad you got out safely, and hope all is well down there.

Fortunately there was plenty of time to get out. Some decided to leave their RVs there either thinking they would be back in a few days, or just did not feel safe hanging around that long as it did look pretty bad with the huge columns of smoke coming off the pass. The columns of smoke literally looked like a huge volcanic eruption. Those who left their rigs are probably regretting it now as it looks to be a long time before re-entry will be allowed.
Problem quickly became finding a place to stay. As you can imagine all RV parks and hotels/motels in the area quickly filled up with the 100s of RVers and the whole town of South Fork having to get out. Many were boondocking in rest areas and parking lots. We managed to get a hotel room the first night and the KOA in Alamosa the second. Feeling it was going to be a long time getting back in, we headed south.
Have been in Ruidoso, NM the last 4 days and will start heading home tomorrow. And then start planning where to go next.

You have never seen a Walmart parking lot with so many rigs, and we drove past it to the next light, turned right and there in front of the Ford Dealership was a really nice level 3 acre lot, we and two other rigs spent the night there, nice and quiet. Bill, they did let rig owners into FV yesterday to get their rigs out. Some are still there, but some were removed Tuesday.
