Heat Pump
my 2009 2955RL has two air conditioners I would like to replace one with a heat pump unit as the factory heater will warm the unit but the distro. of air is terriable and I cant keep it warm enough in the winter. YEs we are in Sunny Florida but at the Speed week in Daytona it was 28 degrees at night and the heater ran almost all the time. So a heat pump may be the ticket.

My reason for not doing that is that the AC vents are in the ceiling but where you want to be warm is nearer the floor. We decided we were better off with small space heaters so we could put the heat exactly where it was needed.

Yep, I am no fan of heat pumps. The compressor, and fan motor gets twice the wear of a non-heat pump, and as Dick says, heat high.. no good, heat low.. Toasty. Moving lukewarm air is chilly. Oh, and the noise...

I would listen to Ozz. He's the resident expert when it comes to HVAC!

I agree with DQDick on the space heaters, too. Unfortunately, they add to the 110v power usage.

I have not had experience with heat pump in an RV, but I would think under 30 degrees it would run a lot also. We have heat pump at home (we are all elec) and when the temp drops to mid to low 20's it runs a lot and if it is 25 with high wind or if the temp drops below 20 I have to run the auxiliary heating unit (elec heat coils) or it will run constantly and never quite get the house warm. In north TX that is not a particular problem since even though we get some pretty cold temps it usually does not stay cold very long.
A heat pump becomes fairly inefficient as the temp drops much below freezing. With the minimal insulation of the trailers I am not sure how well a small unit would keep up.

I've got to jump on the band wagon with the others. A couple of small ceramic heaters will take care of your problem and cost MUCH less too.

We have had temps below zero and kept the rig warm with the furnace, the elec fireplace and one ceramic heater. Once again this year we had weather in the 20s for a good part of the winter and we were in Vegas. The two electric heaters (fireplace and ceramic) kept the living room warm most of the time but during the night we shut them down and set the furnace to around 58. That made for nice sleeping conditions and also kept the pipes from freezing. After 5 yrs in this rig the furnace has kept us warm every winter we have been on the road. A little propane is a small cost for being warm and as said before the heat pump is marginal at best below 25 degrees.

A heat pump will not work at 28 degrees.

I don't know about an RV heat pump but the heat pump on our sun room will work at 10 degrees and the manufacturer says it will work down to zero and doe's not a have back up coil. They have changed a lot in the last few years.

I had a Winnebago with a heat pump, it didn't work very good if colder than 40 degrees, used a lot of electricity and hard to find someone to work on them

One of our two A/C units has a heat pump. It blows cool air at around 45 and below.
