I like the koozie idea. Never heard that before, but I'm gonna try it. Thanks for the thought. I use the teflon pad also and grease the zerk in the hitch.

What's a "koozie"? Time for Google...
AHA!!! I looked it up. It's a neoprene can cover that one uses to keep their cold one (soda, beer, etc.) insulated to keep the contents of the can cold.
I have NEVER heard of this being used on the trailer pin. I'll wait a while until I hear of you others doing well with this one.
If nothing else, it will sure prevent the major divot caused from hitting your head on the pin and a koozie won't help in those location. While I've not done that, I have knocked my head on the corners of the pin frame or against the overhand of the fiver. Ouch, but I never let anyone know it hurts so bad, since I feel stupid it occurred in the first place. DOH!

We tried the Koozie but the problem is that we use a hitch lock to prevent theft of our trailer (yes we are paranoid). It kept falling off. So to prevent the bumps on the noggin I hang pinwheels upside down from the sides of the hitch so you actually see the hitch, and I hang a flag(right side up of course) from the front. Everything is attached with velcro. It is 'decorative' AND 'functional'. I change the pinwheels per season because I know that is ultra important.

I use motorcycle chain wax, designed for high pressure applications. And yes I use a can koozy, keeps it rust, dust free and nicely padded with no grease on your shirt.

We have used a piece of aluminum foil to cover the pin, especially when the site had the front end of the trailer up high. Koozy sounds like a great idea.

I like the koozie idea! I do use a teflon shim and I also grease the pin. I find that I can unhitch much easier and there is a lot less noise from the pin when going around corners.

I am a beer drinker and since I'm a gulper, not a sipper it's gone before it can get warm. No need in using a koozie and having to hold a fat beer can. I gulp so the beer has no chance of going flat, too. The burps are louder that way and then one can taste it in the other direction, too. Why fart and waste it when you can burp and taste it.
Wow, I felt a need to go there. My apologies to the disgusted.

Way to go Art, I didn't know what Koozies were either until my kids introduced me to the fine art of keeping a cold-one cooler longer. Now they are part of our rving accessories.
