3455SA
Hello, I'm new here and researching 5th wheels. I've been in a lot of units in the past 2-3 years and have narrowed things down to several brands/models. I really like a 2010 3455SA that my wife and I looked at last fall. Last week was the RV show in Boston, so we took a ride up to look at what there was and saw one (a Blackwood) that would work perfectly. However, we're not too impulsive and we decided to take a second look at the 3455SA we saw in the fall. We've decided this is the one we want. What I'm asking here is if there are any problems or concerns that anyone can share with me to look into. I have always bought new in the past, trucks and campers, but this time I've decided to go with something a couple years old. This unit is in very good shape and has everything we are looking for. As the end users of these campers, I'm curious as to opinions on price and value. In other words: anything I should know before signing the check?

We have a 2011 3455SA. Picked the unit up in Oct of 2011 and used it at our site in Illinois throughout the summer with few problems. We had the high temp switch on the fridge go off & the battery had a bad cell. These are not deal stopping items in my mind.
We are currently in Mesa AZ for the winter from Nov. to April & staying in our Monty. Everything is okay.
I would say to check your intended unit out for damage & dents. I think the unit is a good deal.

First of all we think you've decided on a GREAT floor plan. We just love the desk opposite the front door as Maureen is a quilter and she can sit there for hours sewing without interfering with someone watching television in the living room. When we are sitting for a long time we swap the hide a bed a recliner positions so we are watching the television directly.
Two things I would be concerned enough to check would be the tires #1, ours came new with Goodyear china bombs and we installed Goodyear G614's right off the bat. #2 Also would check with Norcold about weather a recall has been done to your fridge. Ours has the Norcold double door fridge and there was a recall adding a high temperature sensor for safety reasons. You would just need the model and serial number of the fridge for Norcold.
Enjoy and keep us posted!!!

Thanks for the quick responses. I have heard and experienced the hassles with low-end tires as my current TT is a Cougar and came with cheesy treads. But that's a story for another day...
The 3455SA that we're looking at has the Arctic package with dual pane windows, king bed, 4 door fridge (I'll look into the recall),and central vacuum, among other things that I'm sure you're aware of. The dealer gave me a price of 43k before trade. Pricy, maybe, but I've seen a newer 5ers that don't look anywhere near as clean as this one. My wife says she doesn't think the microwave has been used. So, I'm teetering on the edge here, just need a nudge.

Negotiate!!! You can't believe how much they'll knock off the price of a new rig, let alone a used one if they really want to move it and they think you won't budge. Good luck!

We have a 3455sa 2010. We love it. There have been few problems , and all minor. I shopped 2 yrs before buying . Concluded that Montana was the most for the money. Finally narrowed down to 3 floor plans ; 3400rl, 3750fl , and 3455sa. Chose ours because we liked the desk. We liked the large window in rear. We switched the couch and recliners which made it perfect for us. I think you will enjoy it.

I did negotiate and was told that that was their lowest price. With that I thanked them, and said I'd think it over. Whenever I close a deal, either on my truck or camper, I always walk out feeling I could have done better, whether I could or not, so each time I have this opportunity, I try to leave with no regrets.
It's great getting this feedback and I expect some minor fixes. I've had to do small repairs on my other campers as well. Thank you all.

Follow this link on here http://www.montanaowners.com/forums/...ad.php?t=52486. This is an '09 I believe he said. (If the link does not work, look in the All Forums heading and in the Marketplace).
Hope this is something that could work for either of you.

Just like with a new rig, most MOCers would recommend the same PDI effort as if the rig were new. Not only will a thorough Pre-Delivery Inspection help identify what might not work, it would eliminate any surprises for some new gadget or feature that is installed on the rig and you need to learn how to use. Besides the tires you might want to crawl under the suspension and check the torque on the U-bolts and inspect brake wiring before you get on the road with it.
You sound RV experienced but since you asked, you'll want to do the PDI BEFORE you buy, just so you know what you are dealing with before you sign the bottom line. It's a home that experiences earthquakes every time it is moved and things will certainly go wrong down the road, so finding anything before you do this should be a benefit. Don't forget to check for all the user manuals for everything on the rig, not just the fridge.
The price on this one seems a little high and may have room for negotiation especially at a dealer, but it does sound like it's in great shape. You might try looking up nadaguides.com and verify the rig's price just for comparison.
I like reading about your patience and I hope this helps you enjoy your new rig!

We have a 2010 3455 as well, and we love it. We traded our '08 3400 for it after owning for 13 months. This floor plan fits our lifestyle. I can be 'playing' at the desk and Ken can been watching TV and we are out of each other's way, yet together!! No issues with our rig, other than those that have already been addressed in this thread. We keep adding new things to the rig...as we haven't found anything that we like better. I am so surprised that there are no separate desks in the Montana line and very few from other manufacturers. The desk/TV combination doesn't make sense to me for a rig designed to be used by two people. Enjoy!!!

We have the 2010 3455SA and love it. We wanted something we could live in comfortably for 3 months at a time and the floor plan was perfect for us. When buying
something like this it is better to buy after it's three years old. Mainly because it's broken in and all problems found should have been repaired and the most
depreciation of the unit has occured. Good luck

We also enjoy the floorplan, and were surprised to see it discontinued.
Hook, when you swapped the recliners and couch will the slides still clear the couch? This change would make make the 3455 'bout perfect imhop.

We also swapped the couch and recliners for the same reason. We leave it that way all the time. It's close....but it clears perfectly and travels well.

I took measurments to do the same swap and found that the couch stuck out just far enough to prevent the slide from closing. Maybe my couch was just a
bit larger?

If the dealer won't budge on price, maybe he would help with a tire upgrade to Gy 614s, if it doesn't have them. To those that want to swap the sofa and the recliners, flip the sofa on its back and the slides will retract with no problem.

On swapping the recliners and couch, I have 2011 3455SA you have to push the couch completely against the wall to close slide. We love floorplan and was surprised it was discontinued.

You folks are great! I appreciate all the input I'm getting here. It's encouraging to read these testimonials from the folks that actually use the camper, as apposed to how great it is from the salesman. This web-site is a terrific source of real-life information. Thanks again.

Something else to think about, have them repack the wheel bearings before you purchase a used unit. Our 2010 had no grease at all on one axle and we had extensive damage when the hub, brake drum and wheel decided to leave the axle. We purchased ours new and had 6k miles on them, so check the used unit.
