Birds "issue"
Does anyone have problems with birds making nests in their 5er hitch? I store the Monty for about a month-at-a-time and have had no luck keeping the little buggers out of there. I don't mind giving them free lodging, its just that they make such a huge mess! Any suggestions?

If you are talking about in the pinbox. At one time, when we were having the same trouble, I took some metal screen door material and made a cover to fit in the opening. This worked well and prevented the nesting.

I put a plastic trash bag around mine and keep it on with bungee cords.
Before doing that we would get bird nests inside.

Good suggestion! That would have been my recommendation.

We have to use screen material to keep the mud dabbers out of there every summer, it should also work for birds.

Quick and dirty, fill a plastic bag or two with bunched up newspaper or more plastic bags and stuff it in the pinbox. Guaranteed to be effective. Low cost and easy.

I don't think I would want to shoot my 12 guage into the back of the pin box. To each his own,I suppose.

My old Alpenlite had mirrored windows. On the big rear window we had a bird that did not like the bird it saw in the window and would beat his brains out attacking it for weeks. That bird spent all day perched on the rear ladder and squawk and peck and fly at that bird in the mirror. Figured it was just the one bird doing it and would be gone, but it was back the following year.

Thanks guys (or gals) for the suggestions. I think I'll pass on the buckshot thing??? At that close range the shot could ricochet back and "take care of me"

no birds, but while reaching inside the pin-box to install nuts for a super glide capture plate, i did get bit by a spider. we never found the spider after it ran back into the pin-box. with two distinct fang punctures, my stepson got me to the hospital quickly. they gave me a super-dose of benedryl on top of the two i took. they also gave me a steroid injection and kept me for four
hours. they watched for necrosis, swelling and priapism. after 4 hours and only seeing swelling in the area of the bite, they decided that either it was a young spider, and or the speediness of getting the steroids and antihistamines in me, i was good to go home. the swelling completely subsided after about 4 hours and i never had any other symptoms. I gave up on finding the spider and fogged the cavity, heavily with Viper@
i did not have birds in there, so maybe the answer for bird prevention is spiders
