Made in China...
Sue just got her new authentic Indian Minnetonka beaded flip-flop sandals.
Made in China... who would have thunked it?
I figured they were made up in Brainard or Minehaha somewhere...
Hard to get anything made around here now. We did not check because we assumed they were American made. Bummer.

We were at Chautaugua Lake, New York this last week and were looking at Minnetonka Slippers and shoes. Also never thought to look to see where they were made. Glad I did not purchase. Too expensive to be made in China.

Same thing applies to LL Bean. We used to order a lot of stuff from them because of the quality, but then they started getting everything made in China ans elsewhere. Now when you look in thier catalog, everything says 'imported'.

We start with the assumption that everything we buy is made in China first and elsewhere next. We are pleasantly surprised and usually buy what we can find that is made in the USA it just doesn't happen very often.

You made me look. If I am at home, I have my Minnetonkas on. Looked and mine were made in Dominican Republic! Like you, I never would have thought it.

My grandson and I were out in Four Corners a few years ago and were looking at all the Indian stuff in the tents that surround the area. He had a few bucks in his pocket that were burning a hole. He wanted to buy some real Indian jewelery. I suggested he check out the UPS trucks that were coming in and out regularly, and where the deliveries were coming from. No money spent there, but a learning time for a young feller,--- that will last a long time. Buyer Beware

Two reasons for this: #1. Things are made so cheap in china that the profit is huge when you sell it here at inflated prices and #2. When your country borrows
millions and millions of dollars from China you are forced to buy from them (don't want them calling in their marker now do we?). At least that is how I look at
it.

Just ate lunch and was looking at the salt and pepper shakers. These are the kind that grind it and then you trash them. Made in France!! WTF we don't have salt here?

Hopefully the tide is turning! Look at the Olympic Uniform debacle. There are many more people paying attention to where the items they buy are being manufactured. USA manufacturers are getting more competitive pricewise and more of us are buying American produced goods. The only question is: Is it enough to return a significant amount of jobs?

We all know that we live in a "world economy" and that it has become very difficult to find items "Made in America" but it can be done. Yes there are certain things that unavoidable but that does not mean we should just give in!
Check this link out http://abcnews.go.com/US/MadeInAmeri...ry?id=16304078
Our Great Nation was "built" on strong entrepreneurism and "American" pride. Sure it takes a little longer to find something and it may cost a little more but in the end it may save your own job in the end if you try just a little harder to find that "Made in the USA" label.

Hi Ozz
For you that travel to the Amama Colony's siteseeing and would like to buy things from the Amama's,look at the label and if made in the Amama's, it will say MADE IN THE AMAMA COLONY'S. If not it will say MADE FOR THE AMAMA COLONY'S. Amama is noted for making woolen products and other things and made by them they are a great products. Lots of stuff made else where so buyer beware. READ THE LABEL OR ASK. Surprize Sue and buy her some wooden shoes from Pella Iowa.

Lets take a good look at the reason most everything is made in China or other countries.. Low labor cost.We can not compete with their low labor cost. The Americian worker after the years of gains in working conditions and benefits is not going to give them up. Our standard of living is what it is after years and years of struggle to get here. The truth is other countries can make just as good a product as we ever did and at a far lower cost because of the low labor cost.
Think about that Chinese worker who is making a product for 3.00 a hour or less and if made here the workers would be making 10/12 a hour.
We are not gonna take a pay or benefit cut so we can make things here...not gonna happen.
Now/..how come we do not limit or place huge import fees on foreign goods..think about that for awhile.

Rich ... you forgot to address the "insane" regulations about any company has to endure in the US today. Translate into $$$$$ of overhead. Overseas, you'll not find 1/10 of the stipulations to do business US companies have to deal with. However ... due to our diligence ... we will save the world regarding such matters. We won't be on this rock forever ... lets use a little of it as we go.

Not to mention corporate income taxes that are lower in almost every other developed country.
