Bad day for 6.0 powerstroke
Just had a tow truck pick up my 2006 Ford with 6.0 diesel. Smelled a fuel leak last couple of days. Checked my oil stick and way over full and smelling like diesel fuel in the oil. Called dealer and they sent a tow truck to pick it up. Told me not to drive it. I'm afraid it might be serious condition. Dang it almost had it paid off. Does it sound bad?

Sounds like an injector leaking letting fuel bypass the rings and wind up in the oil. The 6s are prone to head gasket problems but this doesn't sound like a gasket, more like a fuel leak could be as simple as a fuel line. Keep your fingers crossed. Fuel in the oil is bad it depends on how much, almost all 2008s and up have some fuel in the oil 3 or 4 quarts shouldn't hurt it.

Just got truck back from shop. They did not see any fuel in the oil. Said I had a fuel pressure regulator leaking fuel on top of engine. They replaced that and said it damaged the top radiator hose and contimated the coolant. So I needed new fuel pressure regulator, new top water hose, thermostat, coolant flush, oil change, and a new engine belt. Only cost $1300 bucks. Then said since my pressure did not send enough fuel to the injectors it damaged 5 injectors buy hey I should go ahead and replace all 8. Only cost $3900 plus tax. The tech even told me which part to expect to go out next. An oil pump under the turbo. Expensive to replace. Gotta love the dealers. Think it is time for a new truck.

I had two injectors that I chose to replace about a year ago. At first they indicated that it wouldn’t hurt anything and that it only caused a slight miss. I had them to change them anyway and it’s been running better than when I first got it. I couldn’t ask for it to run any better right now. Of course 2 injectors are a lot less to replace than all eight of them. Have you priced a replacement engine from the dealer? If not then you probably won’t want to go there, believe me it wasn’t cheap when I just inquired about it. My next oil change I plan to replace all fuel filters and to keep them changed every other oil change. I believe that can help keep the injectors from going bad.

The 6L uses the engine oil to work the injectors. Keeping the engine oil and the oil filter changed helps to keep the injectors working properly. These injectors are a Caterpillar design that was maybe still is used on most of their equipment.
