Goodyear Tires
I own a 2008 3465SA Montana (37'11"). The RV came with Goodyear Marathon 235/80R16 Load E tires. I had one blowout last Oct. 2010 and a week ago I had 2 blowouts within 25 miles of each other. The psi that is on the side of RV is 80psi. The tire dates on the sidewall was 2007 so the tires are not old. I keep the tires covered and RV is not overloaded. Does anyone have any suggestion or has anyone else had this problem. One blowout I understand but 3 of the orginal tires has me scatching my head.Goodyear has been no help. Steve

I'd consider 2007 to be old for tires, but I might be prejudiced by my sports car that chews through rear tires every 8 months!
Tires, especially those that aren't used regularly - almost daily (like RV tires) - get old and hard. Then they try and flex; instead they crack.

Yes there have been ongoing issue with the "Marathon Goodyear Tires".... Numerous MOC members have had blow outs and caused extensive damage. You are lucky you have made it this far! They are chineese made tires and are junk! Do not let the Goodyear name fool you. Look at your tires and it will say "made in china"! Run a search on "tires" and there are to many threads to count on this subject. Glad you are safe and no damage. Many MOC members will not pull a new rig off the lot until the tires are replaced at thier own cost. Others buy them on the way home. There are also a lot of information about replacement tires that will help you decide what to replace the bad ones with. We replaced all of ours asap.

I got rid of those Chinese road bombs after 5000 miles and a blowout that tore up the side of the trailer. When I got home, I found another one ready to blow. I will never have a tire that says Marathon on the rig again.

As has been said: everyone I know and read about is changing out the Marathons for a better tire. I have a new 2011 version of your 5er and am changing to G614's next week.

A lot of people here on the forum have switched to BF Goodrich Commercials TA's including myself. I had the Mission timebombs in which one nearly came apart on the way to getting on the BFG's on. Good luck!

We had 4 bombs fail this yearon our new Monty. Be persistant with Goodyear. We were able to recover all our expenseout of pocket and were given full credit for Marathons against a set of G614s just last week. At GY ask for a supervisor named Steve Booth. Good Luck!!!

Sorry to hijack but can we put the G614s on the rims that are on our 2011 3580?

Bill and Sue, you need to take a look at the back side of the wheels. Info should be on one of the spokes as to load limit and max pressure. My guess would be that since it's a 2011 that you're good to go. I have put 614's on my 2010 as the rims are rated for 110 psi, but knowing the way business is done, I would check to make sure first.
Regards,

I caught two Marathon bombs just before they blew. Put on the BFG's and have been very happy with them!
Lonnie is the man on tires... so if he chimes in, listen.

We had a blowout of one last september and now we just noticed that another of our Goodyear Marathons has a buldge in the center. looks like belts have broken. I was told that an E rated truck tire doesn't have as strong of a sidewall as a trailer tire... but what good is a stronger sidewall of they can't handle the same weight...

I got rid of the Goodyear Marabombs after only 900 miles on them. Too much documented evidence out there that indicates premature catastrophic failure in these tires to place me, DW and others on the road at risk. I spent $1000 for peace of mind and reliability. I call it preventative maintenance...

The difference between the truck tire and the trailer tire is the truck tire can be installed on driven and steering wheels and the trailer tire can't. Side wall strength is described by the load range.
I searched for direct replacements and found that the Marathons were the only E-load tire that can handle 3410#. Our 3400RL is right at that maximum load limit. We realize we need better tires, but I was unable to find the pressure rating of our aluminum rims. IIrc, the G614 reqquires 110 psi to get to 3410#. I think we're to the point of replacing both rims and tires!
Btw, there are several possible reasons for the bulge. We have them too, but in our case the bulge is caused by tight fibers that are used in manufacture of the tire. There are 6 of these radial lines which show up as a depression that runs in a straight line from just below the tread toward the center of the hub. If that depression showed up aligned differently it could be an indication of the casing coming apart.

This has been discussed numerous times on the MOC and I am sure a Search would uncover multiple threads explaining which rims are capable of handling G614's. But if you remove a wheel and look at the spokes on the back side you will find the rim's capacity. 3410 Lbs. rated rims equate to 110 PSI. Alternatively you could call Tredit, the manufacturer of the rims, and they will tell you the capacity.
In any case, a 2010 model has rims capable of supporting 110 PSI.

Even the best tires have a life span. I bought my Goodyear G614s in late 2007. Since then I have put many, many miles on them. I have traversed the good ole USA east to west, north to south and parts of Canada on them. The tread has worn evenly and the tires look good. However, the tires are coming up on 5 years since manufacture.
For the weight we carry and highway speeds, that is an old tire regardless of its appearance. I will be replacing them within the next six months. I will use G614s again. As a full timer, I try not to gamble against the odds.

For those of you wondering about the psi ratings, if you have the T02 rims as pictured on this page with an 8 bolt pattern:
T02 Rims
they are rated for 3750 pounds and 110 psi. We have 614's mounted on this rim.
