Another Step Closer!
Exciting news!!! Last night we signed a contract to sell our home here in GA. A wonderful family from PA, moving to the area with job transfer. Closing is set for Aug 30, but we feel sure all will go through with no problems. So if we become scarce on the forum for the next few weeks it will be because we are busy with moving, etc. Have decided once we get everything into the vacation house in WV we are going to hit the road in the Montana for a few months before even unpacking!! Who knows we may decide to forget unpacking all those boxes of things we thought we just had to hold onto and just stay out there on the road full-timing in the Montana. We already have reservations for Stone Mountain Park, GA and the Rally in September and Pigeon Forge in October. Really looking forward to a break in packing, sorting, deciding what to keep, etc.
Tom is doing great with his recovery after his hip replacement. Just two weeks after surgery he is now walking about with just a cane and his energy level is much greater than prior to surgery.

So glad that your house is sold. I will be closing on mine in the next few weeks. It is a great feeling to know that we will be able to travel and see this great country of ours. So glad to hear that Tom is doing well. Hope to see you in Sept.

Joyce, congradulations on your success with your house, I know the stress all of that can create, be safe on the road and best wish's to Tom on a speedy recovery. One day I hope that we can spend more time on the road and less time trying to keep up with ever faster rat race....

Thanks for the congrats and well wishes everyone. Closing has been moved up to Aug 27 with packers and movers coming on 25/26. So far looks like all will go through as planned, but you never really know until you sit down at the closing table and sign on the dotted line. After we get all the furniture and boxes into our WV chalet we will not be unpacking, but hitting the road in our RV to give Tom more time to recover before struggling to set up a new household. Right now we have reservations for a week in Stone Mountain Park here in GA (Sept 7-14) where with the help of two of our grandsons we will be showing my art work at the Yellow Daisy Festival, Sept 9-12. We will then be traveling with the RV up to Columbus, OH to return the grandsons and then onto Bremen, IN (Sept 23-30) for the rally. Other fall plans include one more show, the Shenandoah Valley Hot Air Balloon and Wine Festival in mid October. Then some time in Pigeon Forge, TN. Have reservations at Rivers Edge Oct 27-Nov 1. We will be spending Thanksgiving & Christmas Holidays at our chalet in WV with family. Other than these dates, we really have no plans. Will just go wherever the road may lead us.

Joyce - Sounds like a jam packed fall schedule. If you have the time would you share some addtional information on the Shenandoah Valley Hot Air Balloon and Wine Festival in mid October like the location and dates, or direct me to a web site. This sounds like a fun thing. We have done the Balloon Fest in Albuquerque, NM several times and really enjoyed the experience. Thanks.

Knock on wood, we've never had trouble leaving Sophie and Chip in the trailer. We make sure they've been walked, have food and water and their beds. Windows open if it's cool or air conditioning on if it's not. They're 10 and 10 1/2 and spend most of the day napping whether at home or camping . The one thing that we do enjoy and would recommend is having an X pen (foldable play yard) for them at the camp site. That way they don't have to be chained and we don't have to worry about them wandering off. Of course we don't leave them in there unless we are closeby. Since greyhounds are used to traveling from their kennel to the track, they make great traveling companions. They hop in the back seat of the pickup (2 70 lb dogs pretty much fill it up) and lay down. We've traveled up to 9 hours in a day that way (with stops for water and walks of course). We've thought about getting a smaller dog when these two are gone, but would still want them to be people friendly, quiet, and as "easy" as Sophie and Chip are. Hope that's a long way off!
Jean

Ron & Vic,
The SVHAB&WF will be Oct 15,16,& 17 at the Historic Long Branch in Millwood, VA. You can check it out at
http://www.historiclongbranch.com/index.html
Our business name is "Alpen Haus" if you check out the exhibitors list. It is a beautiful setting in the Blue Ridge Mountains and is the right time of the year for the fall colors. The closest campground is Candy Hill in the Winchester, VA area. This campground has been reviewed by some folks on the MOC forum and you can find info under campgrounds.
If you decide to attend the festival, be sure to look us up and introduce yourselves. Let me know if you have any further questions after looking at the website.

Joyce -- thank you, thank you, thank you! Really appreciate you bringing up this topic. We are definitely going to try and fit this event into our schedule. I am assuming with a 7:30AM lift off, that most observers arrive about two hours before to allow for traffic, parking, etc. And you betcha that we will be looking up Alpen Haus - sounds like an interesting business.

Joyce, thanks for the update and encouraging us potential fulltimers. Our house is under contract and hopefully gone Sep. 30, 2004. Lord willing, January 2005 will find us in sunny Florida for several months and then on to Alaska for the Summer.
