50 amp electric plug location
Does anyone find it inconvenient to have the 50 amp electrical outlet mounted on the back of the trailer? It just seems out of place when all of the other utilities are accessed at the convenient center on the off door side of the unit. It isn’t uncommon to see plugs on sobs on the side.
Is there a reason that it’s on the back that I’m overlooking?

Just a guess, but maybe they put it in the back to get it away from all the water hazards in the convenience center. Springing a leak next to your 50 amp connection might make inconvenient fireworks and it also invites campers in puddles fiddling with electricity.
Or, alternatively, maybe they wanted to give us a way to hook up our portable generators in an adjacent row of campers in order to keep us 25 feet from our noise.

BTW it was inconvenient for me to the tune of $175 when I bought my Monty. I had no truck at the time so the dealer kindly delivered it to my site. When they parked it I had no clue that the rig comes with a power cord that is shorter than the trailer.
After the dealer left with his truck I discovered that my clever placement in the very long lot left me 10 feet short of the electrical utilities for the sight.
I'm now the proud owner of an extension cable that I'll probably use for ballast when balancing my load. You don't want to buy one of those things.

Others have moved it to the front of the camper. Bingo did this, I'm sure... We have had ours for three years and have had no problems with length. Just lay the cord out before you chock and set up to be sure.....My DW has a saying she uses alot: "Poor planning on your part does not mean an emergency on mine!". I hate it when she tells me that....

Mine is on the left side near the rear. I always wondered why they put it back there on most of the Montys poor planning along with extra wire to run to the fuse box.

Keeping it away from the water is good enough reason for me. Like Phil says, lay out the cord before setting up (don't ask me how I discovered this little trick). Just remember the 7 P's (proper prior planning prevents p**s poor performance)

IF you check at a lot of the older RV parks and even some of the newer ones, the shoreline power receptical is at the rear of the parking spot for back ins or it is halfway in the spot. Normally if it is a pull through the power hookup us halfway!

As long as I can reach it, that's all that matters.

I seriously don't think that they gave it that much thought! Otherwise, why did they go and put the 50 amp breaker/fuse box right under the kitchen sink with no kind of protection from a leaky sink, faucet, or water pipe malfunction in my 3605RL?!

One reason may that when you are on the road, the current location is the least susceptible to water infiltration from rain or road water kicked up by tires and passing traffic. Other than that, I don't know.

Remember that the inside is wired by the same Leprechauns who wire the stereo system.......blindfolded. The outside is wired by gremlins.
Gremlins don't talk to Leprechauns do they????

My SOB TT didn't have it on the back as the Monty, but it was in the far back corner road side. So I already acustomed to it be in that general location.

On older models, such as my 2005 2955rl, the plug is in the rear as is the fresh water port. So much for thinking safety!!!

Thanks for the feedback. I didn't consider the water / safety aspect because in my limited experences at camp grounds I remember the city water and power stand in close proximity to one another but that's no reason for the manufacturer not to seperate them. Also seems like a good choice in regard to the portable generator.
Guess I'll find out for myself if I every get a chance to use it somewhere other than in the back yard!

Jim,
Is there such a thing as "non-prior" planning?

My 2005 2955 has the electric on rear left corner and the water on the left rear side. Most m/h that I see with convience centers every thing is in the same place. My fresh water tank is in the rear of the unit, thus easy to fill.
